At the top is a Malcolm Brewer dory my wife and I gave each other for our wedding (which we wish we'd never sold), and the lower photo is a Cape Ann dory from Chapelle's 'American Small Sailing Craft' plans.

Dory are such handsome boat. Thanks for the pix, they are such a wonderful expression of need and aesthetic.

I wonder if anyone documented the St. Pierre dory well, in photogs. I imagine that life is going, but I've never been there.

Nice looking boat, like the sailing rig.

We thought they looked nice, too, and might be an improvement over a 'standard' Banks dory type but they were a disappointment overall. Awkward to row, lousy sailers, wet, tender and uncomfortable.

So does this mean you miss them or not?

I was referring to the Cape Ann dory only... the Brewer dory was a dream. I rowed it to and from work on nice days for a couple of years, and enoyed it so much that sometimes I was late arriving for work and even later getting home for dinner. There was a slightly scaled down version of the Brewer dory built (from 15'LOA to 14'LOA) at the Apprenticeshop. You'd think that wouldn't make much difference but the narrowed bottom made for a much more tender boat. It was a lesson.
