I find it amusing to see play with words when it comes to giving the tender a name to compliment the big money pit.(Well, what would you describe it as?)
For example:
'Here and There' Dinghy is called 'Everywhere' I thought it was a a grab from the Beatles tune but the name originated in the 30s when the vessel was built!
'Deep Pockets' Dinghy is called 'Loose Change'
'Time Bandit' Dinghy is called 'Stollen Moment'
'Brilliant' Dinghy is called 'Afterglow'
I want to hear of other word associations, so please add to the list. Ion

I know technically the tender is supposed to go by the vessel's name, but we have "The Princess" and the "Pea" ;) . Seriously.
At a local marina there's "Yellow Brick Road" and her tender "Dorothy."

I liked the story in WB many years ago of the boat built on spec being named "Annie" after the cartoon character L'il Orphan Annie, so naturally the dinghy was named after L'il Orphan Annie's dog, Sandy.

The best one I can think of offhand is the name of one of John Welsford's designs: The Tender Behind ;)

"Patience" tows "Imp" naturally,,,,,,
On "witty" boat names,,,,,,,, call your boat what you like, but try the name out first by bellowing it across a crowded harbour then call the coastguard on the vhf,,,,, A ship called Kwaq(no idea why) caused mayhem on the Thames when he reprted in every few miles as required,,,,,quack, quack, quack,,,,,,,,,,,,, smile.gif

I would like to know what the word is that describes the relationship (association) between boat name and tender name?

Got another one; Rancid Wife's uncle and cousin co-owned a fishboat, their names; Randy and Sydney

A dinghy behind a catboat in Ft Myers Beach named "Cat Sass"
Mark,
I think that's the best one. It took me a minute!

I should have had that in mind when I named Prairie Islander. It'll take a small type to fit Tender to Prairie Islander on the transom of the Humble Bee and nobody in Nebraska would understand TT Prairie Islander. But then maybe I don't care if everybody is going the wrong way but me, eh?

Interesting topic that just comes when I'm thinking of an appropriate name for my winter project, a rowing/sailing dinghy for under construction trawler,a complete rebuild of a severely fire damaged boat, hence it's name M/V Phoenix, (Egyptian fire bird resurrection?). I've been mulling this one for some time and the light hasn't come on yet.Any ideas from the mythologically oriented?

How about the guy who flew too close to the sun, (mind the spelling), Icarus?

We're in the ballpark Barnes, these things take time to mull over while in the thinking chair in the boat shop. Thanks. Icarus must have been a fool to fly so close......

The White Submarine (I've not heard Her real name). A Sea Scout boat. The kids avoid her. She has 1/2 a cubic metre of paint on her and she looks like a swamp.
Warren.
ps, She swamps, through the CB slot. You can't bail quickly enough to save Her. Would a venturie work, ... deeply submerged?
