So I joined USPS about a year ago, and worked my way up thru Pilot (rank). I went to a conference this last week and wore the uniform (whites) for the first time. Plain vanilla white- no awards, decorations, shoulder boards. Maybe I joined the wrong organization. CGAUX has lots of uniforms, decorations and the like, and you can wear at least some of your mil decorations. Any experince out there with either of these worthy organizations?

Dale, I'm an AP (since 1967), and have always meant to pursue JN and N when I make the time to do so.

I am not nearly as familiar with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, but it is my impression that the educational offerings of the Power Squadrons are more extensive.

As far as USPS uniforms:

I don't know much about the PSs, but the Auxiliary expects a pretty big commitment of time.

I've belonged to both organizations in the past. Much depends on the membership - some Power Squadrons are little more than retiree's social clubs but if you get a good group they are better for education. When I lived up north I got an N rating and taught JN for a while. The Aux. is, in many areas, relied upon to assist an overextended Coast Guard. As such there may be great demands on the membership. I got tired of the pseudo-military bureaucracy. But again it all depends on the local membership.

I have been a member since 1959. Have earned 45 merit marks. When commander of local squadron in 1970-71 I purchased a uniform. Wore it two years and hung it up in closet. Never wore it again. Choosing an organization because of the uniform is a poor reason to join that organization. In 1951 I joined the USMC because of the dress blues. Never got to wear that beautiful suit and dammed near got killed in the process.
