I'll be heading off for a week of sailing in Penobscot Bay in two weeks. Rockland is my planned jumpoff point. Can anyone give me info about local ramps? Parking is not important, as I have cousins adjacent who will take my car and trailer away for a week. This is a shallow draft boat, so an extreme ramp is not required.

Atlantic Challenge has the newest and biggest, and it's free with an ask.

Rockland's Snow Marine Park, parking, but no other facilities, small fee, I think.

Several boatyards have ramps as well-RHBY, Journeys End, Ocean Pursuits (I think) Kmights Marine etc.

Cheers, Hugh

We've just today returned from two weeks sailing Penobscott Bay in our Shearwater Yawl, TRUE NORTH.

We launched in Rockland on the advice of friends who sail their Shearwater in the Bay often. Other towns have good ramps, but not much long-term parking.

Rockland features a ramp which is very ggood at all tides, and plenty of parking right at the ramp. Check with the Harbor Master's office about the exact location of the ramp, which is not at the central Harbor location, but at the south side of the Harbor. You can get the phone number from the Rockland website. The Harbor Master and his people are very helpful.

We had an outstanding experience, covering all of Penobscott Bay, and parts of Blue Hill Bay in two weeks. There was another Shearwater from New Jersey in our company.

Have fun, Moby Nick

Phil, The town ramp is at Snow Park off Mechanic Street (south of town- check an e-map), right next to Hurricane Island Outward Bound. Good ramp and floats- $5.00 day fee for the ramp- so $10.00. You can park there, if necessary. There's an attendant right there at the ramp. Not sure how far into the season. Ed Glaser is the Harbormaster and will be a great help. Give him a call.

Have a great voyage, will

Atlantic Challenge's ramp is a quarter tide to half tide ramp. Snow Marine park is a all tide ramp.
