Okay, this weekend I got the topsides sanded and primed and the deck and the cabin top painted. I'll post some photos of that as I get closer to being done with painting, but in the meantime lets re-think color.

As of now I was planning on the hull, deck, and cabin top being blue. The keel, the space between the rub rails and the cabin sides gray.

After putting the white primer on and painting the cabin top and the deck I think I will re-think the gray. The wife didn't really like the look of the white primer, so white is out.

My first thought was to compliment the blue with yellow, but on second thought we may look at using the same red that I used on my canoe, leaving the keel gray.

So in short the main color is the blue, the keel will be gray and the area between the rubrails and the cabin sides will be red. (see photos below for colors). My only concern is that the red is a flat color and I think I may need a semi-gloss.

Here is the canoe with the color I'm thinking about using.

And here is the weekender with the old color scheme (in fact this photo shows both the canoe and the weekender).

I think the gray looks pretty good as is. Then again, some multi-colored boats can look pretty neat, too and people don't expect anybody to have the nerve to make such a bold statement. I'd say go for it. It could always be repainted if you don't like the red.

It'll look downright Carribean!

I like the gray also, but the wife feels that there is not enough contrast. When I got the deck painted you do kinda lose the difference in the colors. But I do have the white oak rails taped over so I'm not getting the full effect. You are right though, if I don't like the red, I can always repaint.

Okay here is the first test run with the new color scheme. It still needs more coats, it is wet in this photo, and the flash made it look brighter than what it is, but it gives you and idea.

cs, I think it looks cool !

It'll look kinda' like all the pretty boats on the beaches in just about every country in Europe.

When I did search and rescue, every boat we had to look for had, written on the report form, "white" or "blue and white"......sometimes it's
great to do "your own thing". :D

I'm glad you like it, because after the wife saw the new scheme I can't change it. She likes it a lot, so it stays.

ps. The kid really liked the gray scheme better.
