View Full Version : Boat Dog Pics..
I'm helping a friend find a PWD again, and contacted Red's breeder, up in the PNW. She sent me back these pics of one of her pups, a brown wavy named Skimmer, who now lives quite nearby, on Long Island:

By the way, Donn. There was a time when I strongly resembled that second dog in your post. I sort of embraced the Chewbacca look that year. redface.gif Your right, what a face! smile.gif

(I just realised I don't have pictures of the little mutt actually sailing with me... I have a pretty strong suspicion that he liked it beter than the ex-swmbo ever did. Gonna have to ask to "borrow" him again this season...)

Not my dog, but a couple of my favourite pictures. This is Elvis. He and Gary spent 5 months rowing and sailing from Anacortes, Washington up to Petersburg, Alaska and back again a few summers ago. Now that’s a sea dog!

Meika was bought in 1993 in Fort Smith, NWT for $20 which included the dog licence. Photos are her on our Tanzer 8.5 sailing on the Bras D'or Lakes, Cape Breton, NS. Can't find the photo with her barking at a pod of belugas racing the bow.

Samba is a water-loving dog unlike any we've ever had. In the water, in the boat - she can't get enough.

Long after she has tired the humans with boating, swimming and fetching sticks she will amuse herself with her own water games. Fact is, after a while she does a version of the "Lord of the Flies" transformation and goes native/mental. This dog can't get enough.

Well, great. I guess!...Dr. and lawyers are at it again, looks like mebbee three more surgeries, and an elbow replacement on the table to screw up the summer. On the ship front, we've battle sails this week and next with Lynx, and a movie in April. Then, haul it, tear it down, and ship it May first. Here we come, Cleveland!...Kathy and I just threw in four more plank in the stbd. side.Back to the boat dog...he's been a fulltime liveaboard for nine years now, so he's earned the right to look like a mop!..I'll load a new pic of him tomorrow. here's the 'other' dogs you haven't seen yet.

Just out of curiosity, some Roman ships were discovered in Pisa , Italy, some years ago. One of them sank with a sailor and his little dog:

The art of acclimating a 14 week old sheepdog to the stern sheet of a rowboat took place long before we reached the lake.

This is 'Long Tongue Susie', she is anyones from what I've witnessed. She came with the holiday cabin but wasn't a corporate gift. I went to Eden, on the Saphire Coast to race just recently ... and met Susie.
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid201/p72b46395cddb9dd81e73807bf5bdae24/eff6104b.jpg
She isn't a 'boat dog', she is just another bimbo who hangs around sailors ... and she has a tongue like a Salamander.
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid201/p3b0bc8d61da3c1d1419b9e58e555f861/eff61044.jpg
I should have got a discount for feeding her, she was the caretaker's dog, I think ... and she made herself at home. She did watch-dog the boats at night so she wasn't a total loss. I've spent time with hairier females on racey weekends ... but not with such greedy ones.
Warren.

Rubbish. Jamie I'm sure the Forumites will talk you through it and some of them will be gentle ... if your shots are good of course.
You have got to have the shots Skipper. Thinking of how successful 'the trip on your boat' photos were, ... you have already set the expectation for more.

Also like his name...it fits..... ;) Uncas... The one rule we had for a liveaboard at the NWC is that it had to be Saint Friendly. That took out the schooners I was looking at, but lead to a wonderful Chris.
The name does fit. When he first came into my life he was 11 weeks old and already 23 pounds. Everyone who saw him said that he'd be a tank someday, so...
Unfortunately, puppy photos predate my digital camera. I need to scan a few.
But here's more of a "smile" photo... not taken on the boat, but...
He's not just ballast. His walking back and forth rocks the boat a bit, so if the harbor ices up I don't need bubblers. He also is responsible for issuing the daily tot of rum, and, of course, to prevent boarders when I'm not there, we have security by the Monks of Saint Augustine... http://home.comcast.net/~saintpanzer/Panzershot.jpg

Hey Steven R,
Oliver looks pretty good looking back at Powder Point. I'm just across the bay in Kingston. I've seen your website before, pretty cool. Will have to go back & check it out again. If you need a place to put in over in Kingston, drop a line. The Jones River is a nice paddle this time of year and we have parking at the house just up the street from the Town Landing. Bring Oliver, he can meet my PWD, Auggie, who bears a striking resemblance to Skimmer who started this all.
