She's from Cape COD, apparently.

What a shock!...The owner spent years building that boat...I was on board a few years ago when it was in Boston ...the interior was fantastic with beautiful wood carvings...a sad event...hurricaines in that part of the world are so rare... :(
I kept seeing images of her in the news reports out of Halifax today, but I couldn't determine which boat it was. I actually thought it was the charter boat "Mar II". Sad; I hope she is salvageable.

Fingers crossed for her recovery.
Sadly, "Juan" and his arrival in Canada got zip coverage on US news.
We are accustomed to that, Meer. Check Bruce G.'s thread "That wasn't on US tele!" in the bilge for another example of US media tunnel vision.
As Al Capone was quoted as saying, "Canada? I don't even know what street Canada is on!"

"Out of sight, out of mind" might not be such a bad thing when it comes to the US mmd. You might get invaded again ;)

Well. I just wonder if anybody has gone down there to help the poor bastard out yet? I suddenly feel I "might" know how he feels right about now!
(BTW... I don't know what you guys are watching/reading, but I've been able to keep up to date on this storm all along. Or are you just pissed that CNN didn't send a dozen "talking heads" to do live broadcasts balancing against the wind while their sat/phones kept cutting out and plywood sheets blew past?)

Art, that "poor bastard" has been interviewed on TV, he has been taken in by locals and being fed & clothed, and recovery of his boat is on the "honey do" list right up there with restoring power to 150,000 people, repairing thousands of downed power poles, clearing away tens of thousands of trees, and recovering hundreds of other boats that are either sunk or aground. He'll have his moment.
As for coverage on your news; no, we don't want Heraldo. We just find it somewhat amusing that the Boston TV news breathlessly follows every detail of a hurricane that might impact Texas some thousands of miles away, but New England Forumites only find out about a hurricane on their doorstep from fellow Forumites 250 miles distant on the day of it's arrival on shore.
We had coverage of the damage in Halifax, on both CNN and MSNBC. It wasn't a lot, but they had video of the damage to the hospital, and a bit on the military being called in to help with trees and such.
There was even more coverage of the fact that Manulife, Canada's biggest insurer, bought John Hancock for about $11B.
Larinda, you know, is concrete. She did the WoodenBoat shows fundraising and then in person before it was discovered she wasn't wood. She does have lots of elaborate wooden carvings and nice wooden finish as well as that beautiful engine and bronze. I wonder what damage caused her to sink and what this will indicate about the state of her hull.

Larinda is a schooner, not a ketch.
The web has been slow so I'd not see that this is one of three places Larinda is mentioned. I added the Cape Cod Times story at the NonBoat Msl Juan thread.
Lotta damage up there.
