Can someone tell me why the top of this jib sail curves like this?

It probably does not have to, but occasionally someone will throw in a headboard on a jib.

Because sail battens hold it there?

Is that Art's boat? Dark Harbour?
It's just maximising sail area surely.
Where's Todd when you need him. LOL.

I had a headsail with a shape not unlike yours, the head was stiffened up the last 1/4 section of the sail with stiff material. It gave much better upwind performance than the newer style headsail that I have now, less of a curve at the roach and much softer material at the head, great reaching and downwind, sucks upwind.

It's a Dark Harbor 17. I would like to keep it as close to original as I can. Should I have the sail cut like that? I was going to have the main cut from 6oz Tanbark and the jibs cut from 5oz Tanbark.
