How to make your Woman HUSH!!!!!

My old man has been laying around for a while, doing what he pleases and so I thought I would ask a favor of him. You see he has his boat tools and saws in MY garage, along with a hull, and it is running over with clutter. I just hate it when I have to get something of mine.

Well I said to him one day, do you have any extra wood that we can make a small implement building in the backyard, to make it easier for me to reach MY stuff.

I told him that I didn't have a lot of money, but could he find enough to do this for me, purty please.

Well I went off to work, and he went off to the lumber yard to snoop around it. He told me that a lot of times, they will have twisted wood, or wood that has split and maybe he could sort some of it out and do this Just for me.

Well I came home to find a bunch of junk in his truck, yes junk with nails and and a discolored mess.

Next day I came home and found a small box frame that looked mighty big!!!!

Well in a few more days, the ceiling was in place and the dog and cat had taken up refuge in there.

Well pretty soon, the piles of free wood kept coming, and he sought help and they hammered and banged the all the old nails out nad had a nice LITTLE pile of More wood.

Well the roof framing was FINALLY on it.

But I thought you were going to build me a small implement storage building. He said yes he would do just that. He gave me a big 8x16 foot storage area, with my own access, in the rear.

And I ask him where was he going to put all that spare wood he had? He said not a problem. He added an extra two foot to the side, for storage of long stuff.

Well I said what about the outside? Do you think you can make it look nice for me? He told me again, yes. He happened to find some vinyl siding laying in the back forty, that was not enough to do a job, and they wanted it removed or it would be thrown away.

Jimminie woman! How much stuff do you have and how much do you really need. A hoe and a rake and you could grow a heap of collards and stuff on the land now forever lost under that pile of old boards. Probably enough to start a little truck farm. Sell the surplus and buy toys for your man. That's what you shoulda done.

Uh-huh,,,,,,,,, remember the tool box I bought for Sheila? Well, I went sailing for a few days, and while I was out the way she bought another one and filled it with a Skilsaw, electric screwdriver, (cordless) two hand saws and an airless paint sprayer,,,,,,,, built 100feet of fence 6ft high and painted it green,,,,,,,,,,

Mr. Messinger, I questioned the size when he was in the framing stage. He told me that he may have to make new handles for the increased use of the hoe, shovel, and rake this year. He said the wood came in LONG pieces, and required ripping on the table saw to rough size before shaping it. He said we needed an area that we could do this in the off season, winter, fully inclosed. We made the window in MY area lower, to allow for the lengths to extend out for the full run on the table saw. Wasn't that nice of him? smile.gif

That's the one, since her op on the 6th Feb she has been, after a couple of weeks for recovery, Hyper Woman. Buried her Mum, looking after her Dad. The house and garden both made over, bought a new car, she still has the old one, taking guitar lessons, going to church,,,,,,,,,,

We have a small question for you to answer, Dutchrub. How are you allowed to stay on the forum, with your daily dose of assaults, anonymous digs, sexual induendos, and just plain nonsense? Now you take a perfectly good thread and do the same. Start your own thread, as you do from time to time, to personally assault people.

You can contact the administrator, to inquire about this matter, if it bothers you so much. Its strange that you seem to get away with just about anything you choose to, here, since I have been reading and posting some replies, lately.

How many people have you broken bread with, from the forum, and visited their homes and places of businesses, and can truely say you share other parts of their lives with every week?

If you are truely just another person, instead of posting as Dutchrub as a moniker of a regular participant, than allow us to see another side of you, that is a little more than just cutdowns.

Ian, That's great news about your wife's health! I've been through a bit of that sort of thing myself. Once it's past, the relief is beyond compare.

Mr. Memphis MIke, you see, it was cheaper to have him do the house work, cook, haul kids, do my errands, and take care of the yard, than support his addiction. The chemicals were killing him, he was working 6 and half days a week, spending time on the phone with projects that would never come about, and just in general the, market, in the area, was flat. I call it the three strike rule. The first year was a relief.

Then he got hurt, and that was a long drawn out recovery, but really a blessing. We rediscovered a family life. BUT then he got FAT!!!! His blood pressure went out of the roof. He finally went back to walking, stopped the bagged junk food habit, gave up the sodas, combined with the composte and square foot gardening diet again this year, and what we have now is a lean mean fighting machine, again.

He is walking eight to ten miles a day, cut his calorie intake to around 1500 to 1800 calories, blood pressure down to 120/72 last night, dropped 17 lbs, and counting, and finishing putting his own roof on this week on ladders and in the 90 degree heat.

So you see, there is a motive to my madness. I, also, need him around to take me fishing, and last but not least, I don't want to train another old goat.

Mr. McClure, he has enough old wood to build another shop, but NO BOAT. ;) Get my drift?

The rest of you guys, thanks for the words. Now I must venture off to take care of some "other" old folks. Keep that old man of mine in line today, will you!!!! smile.gif

Can anyone tell me why the constant harrassment is allowed to go on by certain people on this board? There has been some nice replies. I thought it would be a way to show women do care about boats shop, share in joy and fun of the requirements of construction and reconstruction, and the household projects and boat projects can go hand in hand, at least in our little world.

Not to put too fine a psychological point on it, but in every group of guys there come times for all of them when aggression rules. The aggression can range anywhere from sarcasm all the way up to an actual attack.

Must be an anthropological "position in the herd" thing because it seems to be universal.

For the most part, I try to stay out of it. Once in awhile I'm amazed at the amount of bitterness that surfaces for seemingly no good reason. When it happens enough, I simply stop reading the posts by the offenders. I can't stop them from lobbing their turds in the punchbowl, but I don't have to drink.

These are some of the bad stuff I aquired this morning, seafox. You see, some folks don't know a lot about wood in the rough. Wood comes from trees. Trees are round. S4S lumber is cut from round trees. The yards end up with pieces that come from the outside and is not always full width the complete run of the boards.

It you have enough of it, and its used properly, that meaning take longer stuff if it free or half price, and you are not afraid of cutting to length, as we do anyway in boatbuilding, you can save bundles of greenbacks. This stuff makes great blocking material for the walls or floors systems, where you don't have to cut up high dollar boards,

Also, wood is returned to the yards off of jobs, with nails or splits, from setting out in the weather on the jobsites for a time period. Be willing to root and smile at the guys in the yards. Take them some beer or sausage, after the first rummage, and the wood piles will grow in size the next trip. smile.gif

Make sure you offer them something after its loaded. ;)

Actually Managers will love you for this act of "kindness" as they don't have to expend their resourse to clean up the yard every month.

Piece boxes of vinyl siding will returned to the yards for a credit from regular customers, with wet packaging and no one likes to handle this stuff. Also, many times it is not enough to match for a full job. Manufacturers and purchasing agents spot buy and from one month to the next, colors changes. My building requires 7 plus square of shingles, coming from wet and dated paper bundled and roofers will not handle them.So they sit, and take up space, and will become broken from being moved around the yards.

And the list goes on and on. Go to different yards in your area.

Mike, as a matter of fact, during the week after Hurricane Floyd, we had hogs in the rivers, on the beaches, and hogs offshore, with fish underneath of them. But the only hog or hogs I know he probably ever swam with, was in his early days of life on Saturday night, really late on Sat. night. Many folks said he had mellowed when I met him. But his phone number was still the same for a couple of years later. smile.gif
