Just thought I'd post this link for the restoration of the C.A Thayer, a 170 ft. lumber hauler on the left coast.

I'm so pleased they are rebuilding the Thayer. It's just a pity they didn't manage to get to the Wapama before it was too late.

I have an album on PictureTrail devoted to photosof that ****national disgrace**** the Wapama.
Regarding the Thayer, the restoration is far more involved than was originally planned!
I just hope they don't run out of money!

From what I've heard they might have enough to finish the hull but there isn't enough to do the rig too. Which is too bad as it would be nice to complete the whole thing.

Current issue of WB has a pretty good article on the Thayer restoration.
Gives me a pause when I see all the aids to construction available to a modern shipwright vs. what the true oldtimers had to work with.
Didn't see any of those 'ships clamps' in use. The 50 pounders with prongs on swivels instead of nice smooth pads and jaw feet. ;)
Gosh they were back breaking to move around!

Dave,
Could you post a link to the Wapama album ?
Has any thought been given as to ways to prevent the hogging problem recurring - other than putting some arch in the keel ?

See that little house icon on the top line of my postings?
That takes you to my web site and from there you can access the Picture Trail albums.

Dave,
Many thanks for the hint. I had not realized ...
Wapama looks to be in sad shape, though it also looks like somebody is getting ready to do something to (for?) her.
