A while ago I posted a few questions about a rig design I proposed for my Pathfinder, converting it from a yawl to a sloop. Here are the results. Im on my way to Omokoroa Trad boat rally in Tauranga NZ http://www.varuna.co.nz/images/stories/omokoroa/varuna_sloop.jpg
Nice job, the sails are setting beautifully and she looks easily handled, with the full battens nice reefing system and even roller furling.
I approve of everything--I'm a huge fan of telltales.
Edited to add: Are those lazyjacks really needed?

I'd love to hear how you like Pathfinder as a sloop instead of a yawl please! smile.gif

Im at the beginning of it. So far its great, easier to rig and the boat handles it well. When I have sailed in a wider range of conditions I will revisit it in greater detail. One thing though, perhaps its the wooden masts but the boat is softer in the gusts and feel easier to control. As far as boat speed etc I sailed with another Pathfinder much lighter than mine which had a gaff sloop rig, I toasted him on the wind but we were more matched off it, not very important when surviving the heavy stuff but interesting to compare.

John, Only in my dreams! I drove to Tauranga and sailed from Sulphur point which is only about 6nm as the crow flies but all day against wind and tide. I see youve got your boat back in the water. A great shot of Dave in his navigator, new career perhaps?

That just looks right! Congrats and I hope it continues to work well for you. Keep the board posted, or at least keep contact info current so we can ask how you like it down the road!
