Does anyone know the type of fuel filter cartridge that the Chris Craft 283F/327F engine (they use the same fuel filter) takes and where I can buy some?? This fuel filter assembly for the 283F/327F engine is metal, cylindrical and maybe about 5" long and maybe about 2" in diameter.
Thanks

Check out www.marine-sales.com. (http://www.marine-sales.com.) They bought out the old Chris Craft factory here in Michigan when it closed and they specialize in hard to find parts for older boats.

If memory serves, that is a Bendix fuel filter, and the filter itself is a series of very fine stacked stainless plates on a rod which screws into the top portion of the filter assembly (the cap). They have offset perforations which catch larger particles. You may find a filter on ebay or at some of vintage parts places, but they don't work all that well.

I would advise you install a secondary system using a paper cartridge somewhere in the fuel line. They will catch much finer contaminations in gasoline. I put mine just by the transmission fastened to an engine stringer.

They will have one or know what to replace it with. ;)
Good Luck. smile.gif

P.S.
You might also check with your local NAPA auto parts store too. You'd be amazed at the stuff they have for old marine engines.

Thanks for the info!!! I think I will take your advice and install a water separator/filter in the line.
