I have a chance to buy first growth Duglas Fir planks that are 22'x2.25"x9". So they are long enough do plank my deck without any scarfs. They are vertical grain and not a single knot. The price is $140 US. I need around 14 boards to cut all the pieces for the deck of my boat, so thats around $2000.
Is that too much to pay for a deck? I was told that I could get a teak deck for around $3000. I haven't started building the boat yet, so this would be the first bit of lumber that I purchase.
The boat is a 26' Bristol Channel Cutter.
Any input would be great.

HOLY CRAP!
If I could get Oregon pine like that for that price, I'd buy 3 times what I needed and sticker the remainder for a rainey day!

Go for the pine deck, more 'authentic' than teak and lighter too.
And please,,,,,, no ply.

Oh man, that's a scary price even if it is at a good price. I haven't priced any decking material yet for my Malabar Jr. so that was a suprise to forget for now. I'll be saving my change for sure.
rkrough, how did you come up with 50 bdft? My calculations came out to be about 37 bdft by using the fourmula (Thickness x Width X Length) / 144 = bdft. So it's ((22*12) X 2.25 x 9)/144 =37.125
Even using 8/4 thickness with width 9 and length 22 it comes out to 33 bdft.
Am I using the wrong fourmula or missing something here?
Thanks, Louis
