View Full Version : re-doing seams...looking for advise...

hello to all who read this. i am a veteran boater, but very new to doing work on wooden boats. i recently purchased a wooden boat and need to do a bottom job on it. it is three years old, however it is built traditional with oakum in the seams and caulked over. it is in good shape overall. there are a couple of places where the caulk is gone and the oakum is sticking out a little. also the caulk on most of it seems to be hard. from what i gather i need to re-caulk the seams that are coming apart, sand, and paint it. am i headed in the right direction?? also some of the seams have been redone with silkaflex 240. is this suitable for them or should that be redone?? any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!!! thanks, randall

2 suggestions,if you please.
1 move this post to Building and Repair
2 learn to use the SEARCH function shown in the upper right hand of this or most any screen on the Forums. Hint, it is right under Post A Reply.

Good luck and Welcome
