Unfortunately I'm stuck up here in Ottawa and I'm looking for someone to possibly take a spin out to look the boat over for me just to give me a better idea if it's worth buying or not.

The boat is in San Diego and the dingy was stolen from the dock where it is moored and requires a $50 Water Taxi. I would send $$$ to cover it.

Let me know if your interested/available here or e-mail me at megman@sympatico.ca

The Kohler boatyard specializes in wooden boats, all sizes. Their address is Shelter Island. They would be a good place to get a professional opinion and perhaps a WB surveyor.

What've you found?

Too bad Dave Fleming, a retired shipwright living in San Diego is not still around. Someone may have his contact info though.

Dave left because he didn't like Misc. Non-boat (the bilge).

Thanks for the heads up. I'll see if I can track
Dave down.

Find was a 39' Piver trimaran (I know, I can hear the groans already....)

It's going for $12,000. :D

I thought Dave Fleming left because he saw the bilge overflowing into some other forums?

Bob Cleek is in San Francisco, a long hike from San Diego.

And Fleming became the target of a know-nothing troll or two who harassed him at every turn...and in every section of the forum...guess he just got fed up.

I watched the whole process I think , but am still amazed that someone of Dave's experience would be driven out of the Woodenboat Forum . Was he a target BECAUSE he was a respected elder ?I remember those of us who respected his opinion being labeled sycophants . Absurd .Internet "live chat "is an unreal world . This would never of happened if we were meeting physically . Maybe in the dysfunctional classrooms of the inner city , but not in shops or on worksites .Such provocateurs would be dismissed ; probably wouldn't show up to begin with .

Thread highjack.

I don't recall seeing anything directed directly at Dave. I think it was a combination of atmsophere and bilge water. Whatever.

Back in the old days Cleek took a heap of abuse too. Some were jealous of his knowledge and his free distribution thereof. The way he handled it should be an example for all of us.

Anyway The Forum has evloved and participants come and go as interest and demands on ones time changes.

I came on this forum TO learn ABOUT WOODEN BOATS, I want to learn all I can about building them, sailing them, maintaning them, design pros and cons. When I first came on I posted a nieve post and some where a little rough I thougt but looking back where absolutly right. I thank Dave and Bob for their knowledge, experiance and input.

To bad some take it the wrong way.

Dave come back !!! smile.gif
