Katrina will generated even more distruction in the form of scams that will take many well intentioned caring people. Please make sure that any "charity" or fund you donate to is the real thing. Be warry of organizations or people who are collecting for other organiztions. See:

The earlier topic is a good example of the extent people can go to scam. Woodenboat forumites should be commended for ferreting out the truth of the post. Google is a wonderful tool in determining the veracity of any request.
