Steven,

Thanks for posting the photos of the Bud McIntosh catboat up at the Maine Coast Boathouse. The more I look at it, I believe that this boat was designed by Sam Crocker, and that 3 or 4 of them were built in the late 50's/early 60's time frame. You also posted the photo of her sister-ship, AUGUST MOON, which was cat-ketch rigged as designed by Crocker to be more friendly for cruising.

This boat is great for just that. I have sailed on her many times and always found her to be able sailor. The mizzen and main are basically self-tending and the jib is on a roller system. There is always a decent sail combination for the prevailing wind conditions, e.g. full match, main and mizzen, jib and jigger, main alone. It is interesting to note she sails relatively well under all configurations.

If you are interested in this boat, I believe that the Maria Mercedes Foundation in Rockland currently has possesion of her.

It might be worth a look.
