View Full Version : Makela Brothers build process?

Posted this up in Repair on a somewhat unrelated thread, Thought I'd try down here.

Speaking of Ceiling:
WB171 has an article on the Makela Brothers out of Fort Bragg, CA(Beautiful place, by the way).
It states that after the Ribbands were built they commenced building the ceiling next the molds, and then planking. Boy I'm confused. Anyone done it this way.
These were big work boats, with 20,000 lb + holds,
so I understand the need for ceiling(just as Cleek pointed out). Maybe I read it wrong,
But this process seems counterintuitive to me. Any info would be great.

Thanks, Barry

I think you got it a bit sideways...
First they built the molds. then installed the ceiling, then the frames, then the planking... I think the article was a bit... over edited, perhaps... If you look at the pictures though, you can see the molds inside the ceiling....

Yeah, I just reread it.
I was half asleep last night when I read it for the first time. Bothered me all day.
