I realize quite a few of the folks on this board have many years of experience and talent beyond my novice start but, I thought I'd post my latest attempt..it was fun and for me that's what counted!

cheers,
Bill

Oh bull! It wouldn't have been any fun at all if you hadn't done such a good job of it! LOL

Wow, Bill. That's pretty. What are the materials? The bungs appear to be a darker wook from the rest - I like it.

How many coats of varnish did you get on there? 20? It's awful pretty and really shiny.

Great job. Make me one, too?

Thanks for the nice comments folks! It was really built as a prototype for a good one but I didn't want to screw up to much good wood working it out. The bungs are Oak, the wood was pine! I like the contrast although those got way to dark, I have a plug cutter waiting for the real one. I had a few folks ask more questions so I popped together a page that explains my process a little better.
it's over here:

You know, somebody out there was looking for plans for just this thing! It was months abo and I can't recal who it was. In So Cal, restoring a recently purchased boat.

I hope he sees this, as it might get him going in hte right direction. smile.gif

Jake, I was quite surprised at the lack of plans or info on the subject when I had an idea to try the project. Maybe it's assumed that after building a large wooden boat, one would have the skills to pop togather such a project with ease so nobody makes a big deal about it. I guess I would agree with the assumtion. Oh well..
