Had to move my weekender to my new house and didn't have the trailer ready. You see the weekender has a full lenght keel, but is flat bottomed. So the bottom of the boat is about 12" above the bottom of the keel.

When I put the boat on the trailer, I kinda had to lay it over to get it stable enough to move. I need to start thinking about building bunks for it. The keel rides on a set of rollars and I was thinking about building the bunks up out of PT lumber and covering them with carpet.

Any other suggestions?

Chad, That's how I replaced the bunks on the trailer for my Nimble 20. and it works fine. Most marine centers sell rolls of bunk carpet. My local shop stopped though. There is a carpet store across the street that will cut strips from outdoor carpet for a lot less. I would recommend SS staples; you can get them from Jamestown Distributors. Rick

Chad,

PT lumber with carpet over works just fine. If you need the bunks to conform to a boat with a little rocker, choose the 5/4 planks used for home deck surfaces instead of 2-by boards.

Instead of the pricey marine carpet, get inexpensive outdoor carpet from the home center store. You can't tell the difference.

Sounds like I'm on the right track. Will proced that way as soon as I can get organized.

If you scrounge around an apartment complex you may find more than you'l ever need and for FREE.

Right at the end and start of a month is a good time.
