I know Sebastian Junger the writer of the perfect storm. He opened a bar “The Half King" around the corner from my old old office. We became friendly when he invited me to the opening night. I looked into the bar with all the sheetrock still to be installed and said what time are you opening he said 8pm I said no way he said you show up Ill buy you a beer, I asked what he was gonna have on tap he mentioned Boddingtons yum smile.gif
So I showed up with a dust mask and one for him. He laughed and said you know we almost didn’t make it and asked what I was drinking. Fast forward to the following summer while visiting a buddy in Mass. we went out to dinner in Glousteaaaaaaaah and then after dinner ended up at the Crows Nest the bar depicted in the book and the film. Somber dive bar. Lights a bit too bright and people a bit worn. Skirted the issue of the book and film with the locals but what I came a way with is they were none too please with the film but thought the book was OK and that Sebastian in particular was a swell guy. Small world the world of bars :D

By the way I'm watching now. I remember an article in "Soundings" regarding the Mintral's skipper (the schooner headed to Bermuda) The movie portrays the man as a hell bent idiot from all accounts he was an able smart sailor with tons of blue water experience. Not a realistic portrait of a fine sailor.

They just said that it's hurricane Grace comming up from the south... this would have impacted the east coast even if it did not a land directly on the US.

What year is this taking place?

I'm glad I re-watched the movie.

My friend moors his boat it the same harbor that the swordfish boats in the movie were using.

Kinda gave new meaning to it after you've seen the sites from water, and actually sailed out of the same harbor.

A lot more yachts now days, there's still the marina the specializes in servicing the fishing fleet, but the old red building to the left of the harbor shot, and old marine paint store, will soon be turned into condos.
