Oh, for a northern summer. So crisp and inspiring.

Fortunately I have fall and spring to look forward to--that's when I do most of my boating. Winter's not too bad around here, either.

Nice job with the photo, BTW (I just noticed the signature).

DROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

YEP. South Luziana is kinda like Canada. While they talk about 2 seasons-Winter and Notwinter, our 2 seasons are Summer and Notsummer. Notsummer usually arrives about mid-week and is gone by the weekend. In a bad year, Notsummer never arrives at all.

I'm saving that picture so I'll know where to launch when I get up to Maine again.

We probably have a month of Summer left. Doesn't really consistently cool down until October, and halloween can be hot some years - the little goblins sweatin' to death in their batman and princess costumes.

Just use a drysuit until the water gets hard, and then go ice sailing!

looks like last saturdays weather on the bay here. Great rowing weather and a fantastic sunset

Boating after labour day in Ontario is good. The bugs are gone and so are the bulk of the people. It's sweater weather, but one of my favorite times to boat. We just came back from a week in the Thousand Islands.

Nice photo, Doug. We've had a fog hanging over
Penobscot mostly all summer. Awesome sunset tonight, though. No camera, naturally.

pics like that remind me of my time in maine--caribou, to be exact, which isn't anywhere near the coast, but just as pretty.
like so. luzziana, we here in florida have summer and not-summer. boy, howdy, there are times i'd give anything to gripe about the snow....well, not too often, but you know what i mean....the coolness of a morning bowhunt...casting a fly for brookies on a stream...enjoying a pipe while drifting on a calm lake as the sun goes down............

Very nice picture Doug, it looks so inviting.

We have a dream, to someday sail Dalia up to Maine, through Gloucester, land of her ancestors.

But we need to get some sea-miles under our keel first, to get ready for the North Atlantic...

We're a bit like Brazil...same blue ,same sky but don't go sailing in the Summer  You end up very very burnt. Here we sail in Winter,Autumn and gently , looking up in fear and trepidation ,Spring. The boys from further South will probably disagree, but up here the sun bites.

and yes I would very much like to feel the waters of the NE USA under my keel...Penobscot Bay would do nicely. smile.gif

Down here we sail in summer - all covered in SPF 30+, swating under hats, shirts, sunglasses, trying to squeeze under the Bimini or find the shadow of the mainsail...

Winter is better

We sail every day except Grand Final day. Well we would if weren't at work. Summer is good, hot, plenty of SPF 30+(and beer) spring is good, if a little unpredictable, winter is good, with a sweater, autumn is perfect. And we've just come out of winter and into spring.

It gets a bit cooler than " not summer" in winter here but it's still just a not summer. :(

We get out and do winter races every second sunday on a mates boat. It's the last winter race this sunday ( fathers day). I got a bit smashed up last fathers day so hopefully I'll see you guys monday ;)
