Figment

I'm hacking together a quick taped plywood pram, and I'm wondering, is there a rule of thumb or preferred dimensional relationship between oarlocks and seat?
Thanks
8-10" above the seat, 10-12" away from the edge. If you're slight of build, maybe a bit less, if giant, a bit more.

I'd have said 6" and 12".

Having been around this subject for many years, I can advise that the oarlocks should be a minimum of six inches above the thwart {8" is better"},and the distance from the edge of the thwart to the oarlock (as if on a carpenter square) is pretty close to 9 1/2". None other than John Gardner once advised me that the old timers rule of thumb was that the latter distance should be the same as "from the crook of the elbow to the crook of the wrist".
