View Full Version : storing epoxy in small containers

I believe someone on this forum warned someone of storing epoxy in containers other than the one it came in. The issue is that it might react with the container. But I don't remember if we were warned what types of containers to avoid.
Can anybody think of a problem storing epoxy (resin or hardener) in those small plastic glue bottles that woodworker.com sells? Or how about the various plastic food storage containers you can get at the grocery store?
Thanks,
Charles

Here's the thread:

Thanks, I just continued on that thread, in "misc. boat related". I asked about other materials, if anyone knows.

I store small(er) quantities of epoxy resin and hardner in polyethylene plastic containers. I have had the resin and harner in them for about 4 months now and there is no sign of any deterioation of the poyletheylene containers. Yes, don't store expoxy in polycarbonate containers as it will "eat" through those containers. I have one set of polyethylene containers that are about pint each in capacity and have large necked caps and the caps have small spouts and plastic caps that you can put over the spouts. I picked them up at a grocery store in the baking/cooking ware section. They are wonderful for storing small quantities of epoxy and also I mix small batches of epoxy by counting the drips of resin & hardner to measure out the proper ratio of resin to hardner. I know, I know, there are "nay sayers" that say you can't get a proper measure doing it this way, but it seems to work fine for me.
