John thanks for all your posts and great photos! I was reviewig old posts again and came across one of yours in July of 2001, you talked abot three S&S boats, Sapphire I saw when you posted about Waione's displacement. The other two Ta Aroa (60 footer) and Santania (43'x 11') I could not pull up the photos. If you could so kindly repost them and any other info you have on them such as contact/ e-mail addresses I would be very appreciative. Thanks Tony.

Another question for JohnB: did Brookes Classic yachts ever sell that beautiful 30 sq.? Lovely, lovely boat. I surely hope that they find/found her a nice home.

Hi Tony, I'll see what I have. Probably lots of Sapphire.. we race against her all the time. Ta Aroa not so many, I very seldom see her. I remember taking pics of her on her mooring. Satanita... I'm sure I don't have any of her but I do have some of Reverie ex Cotton Blossom IV or V which is a sister to Firebrand and very near to Satanita. Jase has pics of Jupiter around somewhere too and she's of the same vintage. And there's smaller boat called Fin.
Mickey, the 30 Square was shipped to the UK for some detailing/finishing and then I believe she went to the med ,but the last I talked to Peter about it she still hadn't been sailed. That was some time ago but it still surprised me.

Whats interesting about these is that She was one of the first boats to sport Coffee grinders in NZ. Early on, one blew up and severely injured a crewman.
The second point is that she was built with a stern more like Satanita/ Revery but after her first season( I believe) she was heavily modified by the designer to the stern you now see. One of the Boat Builders who worked on her described it as " we chopped the whole bum off her back to about there( pointing at a sheet winch) and rebuilt her flatter in the run and fuller through the turn"

Thanks again John!! Keep them coming as well as any others and info on them! To Jase what can you add about Jupiter?

Hi Tony,Jupiter was built within a year of Satanita,( earlier/ later?) perhaps even closer.(Again IIRC) She was either the same model or a very near sister with the only change being the revised stern treatment. I may have a magazine article written at the time of her launch. I'll have a look.
Christhelurker knows all about her and the S and S boats of the period... circa 64/66 because I'm sure he sailed on some of them and knew the owners. An old schoolmate of mine owned satanita for a couple of decades but I don't know where she lives now. Revery lives in Picton while her owners are in dubai working.
