Daughter unit was clicking around me thinks and now the MENU Bar in WORD is missing!!! That's the header at the top that says FILE, EDIT, VIEW, TOOLS, etc.... the toolbars are there but not the menu. So, how do I return things to normal? I've already made certain I'm in "normal" view, not full screen or other views...
Come on WBForumers, I know you can hep me!
Thanks, D
David...right-click on the area where the menu used to be, and reinstate the menu you desire.

That didn't do it. I've tried right clicking and I get the drop down menu for all the tool bars (I've got the first two; STANDARD and FORMATTING) but the MENU isn't an option and I canna get the darn thing back!
David...STANDARD and FORMATING are at the top of the options...click on CUSTOMIZE, and scroll down to the second from the bottom of the menu options.

Dave -
I suspect that she's dragged it and dropped it under the blue bar at the very top. Try dragging and dropping the blue bar down some. It may just have been dragged up too high. this sounds like a terrible description too...but try it.

In response to "restore menu bar":
(You may need Alt + V to get to view menu)
Restore original settings for buttons, commands, or toolbars
Do one or more of the following:
Restore original settings for a menu
On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Customize.
With the Customize dialog box open, right-click the menu you want to restore, and then click Reset on the shortcut menu.
On the Customize dialog box, click Close.
Note The Reset command restores the built-in menu to its original images, commands, and submenus. or
On the View menu, point to Toolbars, and then click Customize.
Click the Options tab.
Click Reset my usage data.
Notes
The Reset my usage data button affects the buttons shown on a built-in toolbar only if it is not wide enough to display all the buttons. It affects the menu commands shown on the short version of built-in menus only if you have the Always show full menus box cleared on the Options tab in the Customize dialog box.
The Reset my usage data button affects only the toolbar buttons and menu commands of the Microsoft Office program in which the button is clicked.
The Reset my usage data button does not change the location of toolbars, does not remove any buttons or commands you've added by using the Customize dialog box, and does not add buttons or commands you've deleted. If that doesn't work, Alt + H should open the help menu tongue.gif - Learn those key strokes you mouse dependant folks tongue.gif

ARGGGHHHHhhhh this thing is ticking me off! I've tried all the old tricks in the book and still can't get it to come up. And yes I DO know the keyboard commands but I just want to be able to use the mouse; SWMBO has no clue w/o the mouse! (doesn't have much of a clue WITH the mouse!, but that's another story)
I've solicited help from an online computing forum and gotten nowhere....

This is a long shot, but it just might help. AFAIK, all the 'customisation' of Word is stored in the template 'normal.dot'
So...first off, shut down word and any other MS Office apps you've got running (eg, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.)
The location of 'normal.dot' varies depending on your version of Windows (Win95/98/NT/2k/XP/etc.) and your version of MS Office/Word.
It is *probably* located here:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates
But it might be somewhere in your home directory (c:\Documents and Settings\<your-login-id>\...), etc.
It might behoove you to search for it (Start..Search...for Files or Folders...
Bear in mind that there could be *multiple* versions floating around. Some versions of Office/Word are set up for workgroup use, so there could be multiple sets of templates (one for each workgroup and one each user).
Once you find 'normal.dot', kill it or rename it to something other.Word should start up then, more-or-less 'virgin.'
You'll have to redo any changes you've made to preferences, etc.
Hope this helps.
Or, you could take the thing out to the rifle range and work out your frustrations on it with a large-bore rifle (I suggest the .444 Marlin or a .45-70 loaded with black powder). Very satisfying. :D
