Can anyone help with information about how to get in touch with Yachting Magazine's Research department or Archive department? I looked them up on the web and sent an email with no response back. My thinking is that the web based publication might not actually be part of the same group that has provided the printed version for the last 100 years (approx.).
I'm interested in researching two specific design write ups about John Aldens design #628 the "Elliot White" Built in 1936 in Mantalokin NJ and featured in two different issues.
Any help will be greatly approeciated
Thanks

Check with a local marine museum, many have an archive of magazines and for a small fee copy the material you want. Better yet, when you find such a museum, become a member, you can volenteer, or be a silent member and still peruse the library.

First of...which issues are you looking for exactly? Secondly, my suggestion is to be a little patient and use ebay. I picked up a huge collection of old Yachting magazines off of ebay a couple of years back. One guy that I bought a few issues off of emailed me back and let me know that he had boxes and boxes of them that he wanted to get rid of. I picked up close to 3 decades worth for short money...plus a few Rudder issues from the 40's. Anyways, if you know the issues exaclty, I might actually have them and could check for you. Another ebay source that comes to mind is a guy who is always selling yachting magazine write ups on diffferent yachts. I bought one from him that was the write up to a design that I built a few years ago. It was definitely cut from the original issue, not copied. If you search for say Sparkman-Stephens or alden yacht or something like that, you'll come across some postings from this guy. He is located in Maine. As far as Yachting goes these days, the magazine is absolutely terrible, and it doesn't surprise me that they haven't goteen back to you.

Since the closure of the Alden firm in 2008, another outfit has taken over their plans catalog. You may wish to contact them at http://www.aldendesigns.com/. I expect that they may have the articles you are interested in on file. They'd certainly have the plans available.
