Well its on the home stretch. I installed the bow plate and the Mast step last night. I made the slot in the mast step long enough to adjust the position of the mast (lightnings have a raked mast). Wooden spacers will be placed in the open slot spaces and held in place with bungee cord (thanks to Dave Nickels for the bungee idea).
The only big task remaining is to drop in the CB and pin it. I will be stepping the mast this weekend and adjusting the shrouds for proper length and tension.
I got used ShoreSails from Dave Gorman, a world class lightning competitor tongue.gif . The Jib is all set but the main and spinnaker required a couple of changes. The hull number on the sails needed changing on both the main and spinnaker and external slides needed to be added to the main. I had the main shipped directly to ShoreSails in Vermont to get the slides added and numbers changed. It turns out they can install the slides cheaper then I could buy the slides themselves, what a deal :D .
The only rigging left is cabling up the CB winch. Thankfully, we are expecting a beautiful weekend here in Indiana and I hope to have it ready to sail by the end of Sunday.
I would like to thank a few of folks who have been a great help in the construction:
John Brooks - With laying the plywood planking on compond bends.
Dave Nickels - His Wooden Lightning experience and advice was of tremendous help and I couldn't have done it without him. He also supplied the rigging I needed to make my wooden lightning have most of the bells and whistles but still have the wooden boat charm. He also supplied the vintage Mahogany Rubrails :D .
Bill Fastiggi - At Shoresails, on some Spinnaker rigging questions and help in removing the numbers from the Spinnaker without damaging it
Dave Gorman - Who supplied the sails and answered some rather dumb questions about racing along with shipping the sails to several locations NY->IN, FL->VT , FL->IN.
WB Forum - For helping a novice stumble through a sailboat project.
I hope to post some pics Sunday night of the Mast Stepping and final appearance.
Carl.
