View Full Version : Pontoon boat deck replacing
I am looking to replace the deck on a pontoon boat, it has 3/4" marine plywood now. Do I have other options or would it be wise to replace with the same plywood. thanks in advance. Curt

If you are thinking of a teak deck (or some sort of wood) I think it will look out of place on a standard pontoon boat. It will be a heck of a lot more expensive and heavy. Does the plywood add structural strength to the boat? There are plywoods made for cabin soles that have a thick veneer on top this may be your best bet.

Curt, are you gonna cover with carpet? If so, I'd simply put treated 3/4" down (let it dry first), then seal the seams with tape/epoxy. Roll epoxy to seal (do the bottom first and the edges), and forget about it. Some would even say forget the treated ply, go with BC exterior, if you're using epoxy.
I am going to put carpet on the deck. I was wondering if there are other types of material that might work like MDO plywood or some other type of fiber board natural or man-made thanks Curt
Curt...you could plank it with 1x8 Trex(tm), and you'd never have to replace it again. I imagine it would be significantly more expensive than plywood.
PS..welcome to the forum.

Titanium honeycomb sandwiched between autoclaved sheets of carbon fiber/epoxy would look cool :D
