Bark side up

Got to spend some quality time yesterday working on the deck and I'm making good progress. Got one question though.

I've been making sure that I put the planks bark side up, but some of these have the lumber mark on that side. Does anyone know of a good way to get these marks off, short of sanding?

bleach might .........but try it first on a piece of scrap and look for discolorization

Lumber crayon is wax. First try alcohol (on the mark, not in yer belly!). If that doesn't work, try naptha.
Or were you referring to the mill stamp? Mill stamps are notoriously hard to eradicate....

Its the mill stamp, not the lumber crayon.

The mill stamps are ink, I think. Talk to a carpet cleaner or carpet cleaning supplies distributor and see if you can get a spot remover that takes off ink and/or Magic Marker.
