You're a good man, Shang. (Though it's hard to imagine a cunning little guy like that staying in a shelter for long...)

The people who run the animal shelter are in a quandary--more animals coming in than prospective new owners to take them home.
They'd like to be a "no-kill" shelter, but they only have so many pens, and no way to expand the operation...

Shepherd-Huskey mix.
Smart enough to count change!

...Oh, and notice the size of the paws.
Think we're talking BIG DOG here...

Czar is about three months old.
We were able to trace his previous owners--they weren't able to keep him because of their work-schedules. They'd tried to find a home for him but gave up and dropped him at the shelter. They're happy that he's found new owners.
Don't know what they called him, but he's learned to answer to "Czar," and is catching on to what housebreaking is all about.
The cat is grumbling, but slowly making friends. She has explained to Czar that her tail is not a piece of recreational equipment.

Note to self. Don't let 11 year old daughter come to the forum, or else I will be making a trip to the local animal shelter.

Nice puppy!

"...Don't let 11 year old daughter come to the forum, or else I will be making a trip to the local animal shelter..."

"...And Daddy, I won't let him chew up anything!
Or mess in the house!
And I'll feed him and take care of him!
Really I will...!"

(And she will too, Chad! ...Here, just let me e-mail a puppy picture to her...)

Damn, Shang. Now the guys here at work want to know why I'm not grumpy this morning anymore... He is CUTE! Adorable. :D :D :D

Aww, c'mon Chad, she'll take care of the pup. Rescued dogs are the best dogs.

What's your current dog, Chad?
Pictures?

The cats we can do without
...well, maybe if they pose with the Head Of The House (your eleven-year-old).

Our current dog is an eight year old Australian Shepard named Whiskers.

Next dog, if I have anything to do with it, will be a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog.

Cute puppy! My sister, son and brother all got their dogs from Pet Smart - a pet store that sponsors rescued animals. They are all great dogs, all were around a year old.
That one looks like he's gonna require a lot of food! ;) smile.gif

Notice that Whiskers brought a stick for you to toss as soon as you've finished taking his picture!
Smart dog!

Yeah, too smart sometimes. His favorite thing to do is chase a ball. He will go and get it but will not give it up. He will sit there with it in his mouth and no matter how hard you tug and pull it holds on. Just about the time you're ready to give up and leave him alone he drops it right at your feet.

If nobody is around he will take his ball over the the trampoline which has a very slight downhill pitch. He will than place the ball on the trampoline and wait for it to start rolling. As soon as it starts rolling he races around to the downhill side and catchs it. Than its back again to start the whole cycle.

So far Czar has learned:

His name,
"Come here"
"No"
"Sit"
"Stay"
"No biting" (still a little vague on this one).
"Do you want to go out?"
"Good dog!"
And not to mess with the cat.

...Everything I needed to know I learned from my dogs.
