View Full Version : Congratulations to the Conservatives

You do count them among your own don't you? I'm talking about that contentious bunch that seems to have mistaken cheap shots, contemptuous rhetoric and drunken mutterings for civil discourse. I don't think many of us will have to think too hard to come up with the nicknames of the 4-5 people on this forum who post like this.

I gather these gentlemen (and I use the term only out of (undeserved) courtesy) must be counted among those additional people, who, while being civil, give support and credibility to the "coalition of the spoilers". Alas, gilding feces doesn't make it smell any better.

So, congratulations to you spoilers and apologists. More and more nice people just don't come into Misc. Non-Boat Related anymore or just don't bother to come to WBF at all. Keep up the good work, cut and paste to insult for all you're worth and slam your barbs meant only to wound. It's important that you continue your valiant effort to avoid making any meaningful contribution to the discussion and it's theme while spewing out more hateful denigration.

Continue the struggle and soon you'll be able to turn your attention to other forums where your staunch and caring brand of conservative advocacy will win you new friends and syncophants. By then, of course, you and your tactics will have killed this one.

Meerkat, there has been NO ONE, YES NO ONE, that has puked and spouted trash as you have, during your attendance record, here, on the forum.
ANTIE-BUSH, ANTI-AMERICAN. Agenda driven, you have posted.

Capitalism you have opposed, because you are one of the lazy Americans looking for freebies. You find companionship here, since socialists exist here.

If you are upset, then you must be getting the real life message that bitching creates nothing but ulcers.. If you think for one minute, six or so conservatives have changed this forum, you are one dense creature. 6,500 plus members, and maybe six conservative active members, and you are crying foul?

I'm not making generalizations, I'm merely commenting on a specific group of spoilers that hide themselves behind the rubric of "conservative" and who tend to get a lot of reinforcement from what I would consider the true (or at least civil ;) ) conservatives on the forum.

No, no troll alert at all. What Meerkat says is the truth. People are leaving because of the remarks of a few that are hellbent on instilling their one sided beliefs concerning this war on others.

Also, we read about your fucked up little war in the paper, we see it on TV, we here on the radio and we discuss it with our friends offline.

Is that it? You don't have any friends so you choose to spew your garbage in here? Well pretty soon, you're not going to have any friends in here either.

Steve! O Canada Steve, that is. We don't hunt open prairies in East Texas. I doubt you stalk successfully the whitetail deer anymore than we do down here. The greatest game animal in North America in my opinion. Thick pine forests (are you new to the forum, I've been through this drill before) make stalking, impossible. As we near hunting season, October through Jan 8, my enthusiasm will allow me to 'splain it again. Great deer hunting here.

High C, I say 6 since MM goes back and forth. Currently, he's on the other side, the dark side. With you, we may be 6. If TL would come back we'd be 7! I think we'd be 7. Certainly wouldn't be 6500 like the libs have.

And the spoon for up my nose
I am really something
That's what you'd probably say
So smoke your little smoke
And drink your little drink
While I dance the night away...
I'm a dancing fool..."

Sorry, Stan, but we do have whitetail deer here in Canada, and where Steve and I live we have rather rugged terrain and thick boreal forest, mostly spruce and fir with a bit of pine. And, yes, the usual method of hunting the deer is to get out there on foot and stalk them, but the real dedicated hunters do it with hunting bows, not rifles. I'd invite you up for a lesson or two, but I know you wouldn't like it here with all us sharp-shootin' socialists.

Well...

IMHO, the real problem here isn't Left vs. Right, but that the Right here depends on the usual Right-wind rhetorical tactics.

They don't argue facts; they rely on drowning out anybody that disagrees with their POV. Further, there is no contemplation allowed for viewpoints at odds with their [previously arrived at] worldview: The sold answer to any problem is (A) free market capitalism and (B) US imperialism.

When was the last time you, StanV, Donn, Scott, Alan, etc., staked out a position based on fact, law and our cultural norms rather than the PR feed emanating from the White House and its girly men (Rush, etc.)

That's the difference between the Right and the Left: you guys don't actually appear to spend a lot of time thinking for yourself.

Blind obedience to authority may make for effective politics, but it doesn't make for a healthy body politic.

Some say your nose

ALL YOUR CHILDREN ARE POOR
UNFORTUNATE VICTIMS OF

A PLAGUE UPON YOUR IGNORANCE & THE GRAY
DESPAIR OF YOUR UGLY LIFE

Where did Annie go
When she went to town?
Who are all those creeps
That she brings around?

ALL YOUR CHILDREN ARE POOR
UNFORTUNATE VICTIMS OF LIES YOU BELIEVE
A PLAGUE UPON YOUR IGNORANCE THAT KEEPS

You're not a democrat? Nick. You're not a republican, that's obvious. You must be one of 'those' that is gonna complain (as I've seen on all of your posts, complain) no matter who is in office. Bi*ch and moan about America, her imperialism, her capitalism, her superior attitude. But you, you are far above that with your superior intellect. You'll not be led, by anybody. You KNOW that there are any number of locations on this planet that offer better living conditions. Is that about it?

On the other hand, I lied also. I did change my undies!

Larry, Larry, Larry...
I don't pick my friends based on their political views, nor do I pick them for size. It comes as complete news to me that they're little. BTW, what part of them did you measure for size in order to determine that they are little? Did they object to your measuring the selected part? Was it fun? Enquiring minds want to know!
Actually, Sneercrap I measured their brains, in your case it wasn’t hard I just had to find my micrometer.

Unfortunately, my choices are limited in this country if I wish to have something resembling a non-negative say over who actually gets elected.

Unfortunately, the Republican party's catering to the extreme right-wing fringe kind of leaves them out in the cold most of the time.

You must be one of 'those' that is gonna complain (as I've seen on all of your posts, complain) no matter who is in office. Bi*ch and moan about America, her imperialism, her capitalism, her superior attitude.Well...I did whine a lot about Clinton. Did I ever tell how lame-brained and foolish his plan for health-care reform was? The notion of fixing healthcare by imposing yet another huge layer of bureaucracy on top of the existing mess, rather than lobbying for real health-care reform and shifting to a system akin to that of France or Canada.

Or the absolute boneheadedness of the very first thing he did after assuming office; the lame attempt at integrating gays in the military. And, worse, having stumbled into the mess, backing down? If he had any sense, at the first sign of mutiny over that, he should have canned the JCS and any other staff officer who wasn't willing to obey orders over that issue. Like I said, lame and bone-headed. It was a huge loss of needed political capital for a miniscule amount of gain.

And I whined a a lot about Bush perie, too. He was a fairly wise, kind man who'd spent his life in service to his country. Unfortunately, having acheived the highest office in the land; a position in which people did what he told them to, he couldn't transcend his years of political servitude to learn to be his own man.

Whine a whole lot about Reagan. Evil man. Puppet of a bunch of Orange Country millionaires. Good actor with a good sense of how to play to the audience. Didn't make him a good president, though. He ran for office on a platform whose main plank was that he was going to cut taxes, hugely increase defense spending and balance the budget—all based on a dubious economic theory derided by serious economists. Didn't work. He did, though increase defense spending and cut taxes. As a result he managed to add more to the total national debt (in adjusted dollars) than did all his predescessors[ combined, including the Civil War, WWII and the Cold War. I'll give him credit, though: he did manage to pull us out of the recession of the late '70s and early 80's, but not via his trickle-down voodoo economics: it was strictly a Keynsian solution: massive (and in Reagan's case, I mean massive, on a scale never before seen) deficit spending to stimulate the economy.

Pretty good for a self-styled fiscal conservative who reneged on virtually every one of his campaign promises (save those made to the people who bankrolled him).

Let's be fair though. A large share of the blame during Reagan's maladministration has to lie with a Congress, both houses of which was controlled by the opposition party: they rolled over and gave him everything Reagan asked for.

And then there was the little case of the Iran-Contra affair, an impeachable offense against the state if ever there was one: the president and his agents acting in direct contravention to a law specifically limiting the presidents power WRT to foreign affairs. Made the Watergate affair look like a 7-year old shoplifting a candy bar. The Congress rolled over for that one too.

Jimmy Carter wasn't too bad. He f*cked up by letting the Iran hostage mess control his presidency. He'd have been better off by dealing with it in much the same way that the Soviet Union dealt with it (the Soviet embassy was occupied the same day, presumably by the same set of so-called 'students'.). The Soviet Union called Khomeni up on the telephone and simply pointed out, in no uncertain terms, that if things didn't straighten themselves out quickly, the Red Army's tanks, airplanes and missiles would be on the roll. I seem to remember that the Soviet embassy was free of 'students' that same day.

.
.
.

I could go on, but you get the point: I'm a pretty equal-opportunity critic of the people who work for me. I have high expectations of them.

I 'whine' because I care about this country: I want it to fullful the dream laid down by Thos. Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence.

But you, you are far above that with your superior intellect.Far above what? I have a social obligation to participate in the body politic. Don't bitch if you don't vote, as the saying goes. Participation in the affairs of the country is an essential responsibility of a citizen in a democracy if you want the system to work. Elected officials serve me, not vice-versa. I am not merely a conduit to deliver them to power.

You'll not be led, by anybody.Yup. That's a true statement. I am a free man and am led by nobody. I serve my own interests as guided by my interpretation of the larger interests of the community(ies) to which I belong.

W doesn't 'lead' me; he serves, as my representative, my interests.

You KNOW that there are any number of locations on this planet that offer better living conditions. Is that about it?Geez...I don't know. France isn't bad; neither is Canada. I've got good reports on New Zealand and Australia.

Unfortunately, dislike of the current administration isn't reason to leave; au contraire, it's my obligation to hang around and exercise my rights as a free man to speak out in opposition to the wrongs my country is doing. Leaving the country would simply abandon it to evil.

Just remember...only dead fish go with the flow.
