Every time I'm in Washington D.C., I pay my respects at the Vietnam Memorial and then I go across the Mall to pay my respects at the Highway Deaths Memorial.

Ken, are you even familiar with the concept of "paying respect"?

Apparently (unlike most other wars) the total wounded does not include "non combat wounded". So if you're in Iraq carrying supplies and you are a member of the military and your truck turns over. You are not listed as injured. So that 7K and some number may be as much as double.

Also the "non combat wounded" don't get the benefits and health care etcetera of the "combat wounded".

U.S. losses in Iraq are comparable to the annual losses the Soviets suffered during the 10 years they attempted to occupy Afghanistan. FWIW.

Wrong thread, Bob.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First blood was spilled on 9/11~ so this is not the wrong thread. Better we have the extremists travel to Iraq and do battle with them there than in our own streets or backyards. So NO this is no the wrong thread, this is the thread that states why there is blood being spilled ON both sides~ MORE ON THEIR's THAN OURS

Do America a favor, and her friends and allies a favor in the process, and vote Bush out of office next month.

Thanks for the numbers, Bob and Bruce. Now on to an unrelated subject, the war for Iraq. How about tossing Bush out on his ear like he deserves?

Notice less Texans died in 9-11 than Colombians, or Jamaicans, or several others.

Most of the dead were New Yorkers.

Texans overwhelmingly support Bush and his Iraq adventure. New Yorkers, Jamaicans, and Colombians overwhelmingly oppose him.

Guess that means something, doesn't it?

ljb5, I do have a notion as to how to "pay respect."

My answer had nothing at all to do with the sacrifice made by those who have been killed or wounded in this war. In 1969 I tried to pay my respect by VOLUNTARILY joining the armed forces - despite having a draft lottery number of 326. And I pay respect to the leaders of my government who have made the decision to be there by giving my support, regardless of my personal opinion as to whether this war was justified.

My response has to do with the fixation people seem to have on the total numbers of casualties from this war, as if that were the only measure of success or failure.

If as much attention had been paid in the past to the number of casualties created by everyday things perhaps everyday life wouldn't be so dangerous. In the meantime, I'd hate to see us get into a "body count" situation that was so detrimental during the Viet Nam war.

I pray almost daily that this war will be brought to a close without further loss of life. In the meantime, I also hope that those who don't agree with this war can at least have the decency to support both troops and civilians who are in the middle of the conflict, and who have no choice but to be there.

Fine....call Walter Reed and the VA and ask them.

A disbility is a disability...whether it happened in a stateside shipyard or in the heat of battle.

Sounds good. I hope so too.

The first step is to honor their sacrafice -- which means to make ourselves aware of it and to recognize the situations of their death.

Ignoring them or comparing them to others who died by accident while not serving their country denigrates them.

LITTLE BJ, TRY ASKING YOUR YOURSELF ABOUT SUPPORTING KERRY AND PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE ABOUT DENIGRATING TROOPS IN HOSTILE TERRITORY.

But like you, continuing cheering for the deaths by using sarcasim posts and title lines, such as you do on a daily does nothing to show support either. It just all about wanting defeat of Bush, at all costs, the same as Kerry and Kennedy making their hate speeches in the halls of congress, in plain view of our enemies. All of you crowd hide behind the premise of compassion, to create and have created a divide in the families and the communities that the military families reside in too, along with this country. Its all bull crap,

Now bring it on Dutch, your reposting of my comments. This is just a bunch of crap, we get to read day end and day out here, drowning out the stuff the board was originally designed for in the first place. It has nothing to do with honoring the dead and their famiies in real life.

Bush may be altering the course of history but he's also repeating many of its worst mistakes in the process.
