Another Way to Generate Revenue
Here's a modest proposal for a way for the federal government to increase its revenue: how about separating church and mannon? In other words, if a tax-exempt church is operating a for-profit business, how about taxing the business? This would generate billions. There's a radio tower near me producing a million bucks a year. It's owned by a church. Guess how much they pay in taxes.

Are there different rules that are used in the context of churches to determine when an organization is a "not-for-profit" operation? Non-religous "not-for-profit" organizations can bring in a lot of money, the question is, as I understand it, what happens to that money...does it get plowed back into the organization's mission and goals or does it get paid to investors. If the former then it's a non-profit (this is, of course, a major similification of the IRS rules) and I'm not sure how you would draw the line between the legitimate needs of pretty much any organization to bring in some money to keep going and "excessive" profit-making. -
