And We Danced... a Philly group called the Hooters.

Their leader...Eric Bazilian is pretty successful producer that's got lots more hits from his mixing board and song writing work than actual recordings. So I'm not sure if this really qualifies as a one hit wonder.

Likewise Welcome to the Boomtown's David and David. David Baerwald was instrumental in getting Tuesday Night Music Club out.

Video Killed the Radio Star (The Buggles or Beagles or something like that) correct!

Our House (Crowded House?) okay, no one is getting this one, so I will have to help ... Madness is the name of the band ... from 1983.

Jukebox (Autograph?) actually, it's The Flirts

Cum on Feel the Noize (QUIET RIOT, BABY!)

Rock it (Def Leppard?) NO ... and obscure fella to be sure. Instrumental ... with really cool, mechanical videos

O.k. Kids, now for the bonus round...

The song is "I Don't Like Mondays."

Three part question.

1. Who's the group
2. Who's the lead singer
3. What are the two things that he is most famous for? (This might be construed as subjective, but I think we'll all agree on the answer."

Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh

In the summertime when the weather is hot
You can stretch right up and touch the sky
When the weather's fine
You got women, you got women on your mind
Have a drink, have a drive
Go out and see what you can find

If her daddy's rich take her out for a meal
If her daddy's poor just do what you feel
Speed along the lane
Do a ton or a ton an' twenty-five
When the sun goes down
You can make it, make it good in a lay-by

We're no threat, people
We're not dirty, we're not mean
We love everybody but we do as we please
When the weather's fine
We go fishin' or go swimmin' in the sea
We're always happy
Life's for livin' yeah, that's our philosophy

Sing along with us
Dee dee dee-dee dee
Dah dah dah-dah dah
Yeah we're hap-happy

When the winter's here, yeah it's party time
Bring your bottle, wear your bright clothes
It'll soon be summertime
And we'll sing again
We'll go drivin' or maybe we'll settle down
If she's rich, if she's nice
Bring your friends and we'll all go into town

Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh
Chh chh-chh, uh Chh chh-chh, uh

One of the contenders for all time worst song I ever heard went something like: "Yummie yummie yummie, I got love in my tummy and I feel like loving you now."

A couple of other singlton hits:

"Who Let the Dogs Out"
(Both of which, I happen to like)

Brad:

Ohhhhh so sorry...."Something So Right" - Level 42
(Unless there's another song under the same title)

Damn Yankees...

Ted Nugent and the guitar player from Styx.

Speaking of Ted, We enjoy the occassional "Ted Run-In" as he lives in Concorde where all of my wife's family lives. His youngest son attends school with my wife's half-sister, so we see then at the occassional game

His World Bow Hunters store used to be a mile from my house til it went online.

Yeah, I dig Kiss too. Creators of the original heavy metal ballad...

"Beth, I hear you callin'..."

Oh yes, Tempted, which I don't think was ever identified, was by Squeeze (I have the cassette in the player of my Wrangler as I type). A few other big ones, if I recall correctly:

8675309 (Jenny)
Funkytown
Jane's Getting Serious
What I Am (just listened to this cassette, as well)
And someone did a modern (at the time) version of David Bowie's Major Tom song

John Meachen

I can add a little to Roger's much earlier questions;Cum on feel the noiz was by Slade, who had a tradition of mis-spelling in their song titles.99 Red Ballons was by a German lady called Nena and is known to some of my friends as the unofficial German National anthem.

I'm prety certain that Cum on feel the Noize was Quiot Riot.

However, I do need to tip my cap to Brad on the Level 42...It is Something About You.

(Jenny Jenny) Tommy Tutone
(What I Am) Edie Brickel and the New Bohemians...Another reason to listen to Rollin's Boxed Life CD.

and I can't think of who wrote "4 -3 - 2 - 1..Earth below us..."

Willin' I have no idea who Gary Wright sang for.

Jeff

Gary Wright sang for a prog rock group named Spooky Tooth. They were much better than their sales indicated, and so are largely forgotten.

They had an album entitled "You Broke My Heart So I Busted Your Jaw". Maybe they should have tried C&W.

As long as we're covering really bad one hit wonders (the 1910 Fruitgum Company did Yummie Yummie Yummie), who can forget Sugar....ahhhh honey honey?

I can remember a Brazilian girl asking me what that song was about and being totally stumped for an answer.

I don't remember his name either, but the song "4,3,2,1...Earth below us...." is "Major Thom", not to be confused with Bowie's Major Tom in "Space Oddity". The theme is the same, even if the lyric and music are quite different.

I also don't remember who did the song "On the Cover of Rolling Stone", a great one-hit-wonder if there ever was one.

This thread also brings to mind "Heaven. It must be there, well it's just got to be there..." I do remember who did that one.

Good morning. Just got a chance to read a little and found this thread. First let me add that Quiet Riot is not a one hit wonder. Besides "Metal Health" and "Cum on Feel the Noize" there were hits such as "Slick Black Caddillac" and "Loves a Bitch". Dem my boys. :D The first concert I saw them at Whitesnake was the opening act.

Heres another 2 hit wonder for you. This band had 2 songs that made it fairly big. They were "Lipstick & Leather" and "Summertime Girls".

Now lets talk about Damn Yankees. Wasn't that Tommy Shaw, Ted Nuggent and Roy Orbision?

Chad

doorstop I can't remember who orginally did "Leader of the Pack" (Shandells maybe?) but Twisted Sister did a re-make that wasn't to bad.

How about, who wrote and performed the theme to "Hawaii Five-O"?

Just as a clarification here... "Cum feel the noise" by British band Slade {Noddy Hodder {sp?} lead singer now fronting ACDC} was a 70s hit not an 80s hit... can still remember playin me first electric guitar to that and at the time I was around 14 so definantly 70s... and doin a fine rendition of that song vocals like a gravel train!

Bob Geldof was knighted for his work for humanity with the "Bandaid" world concert the recording came from the concert... and hence his title of Sir Bob Geldof bestowed by HRH Queenie Lizbaby rocker she be from way back!! :D Boomtown Rats being his band biggest hit I dont like Mondays

I've not read the thread, but did this one by 'Looking Glass' make it?

Brandy (You're A Fine Girl )
( Looking Glass )

(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda)

There's a port on a western bay
And it serves a hundred ships a day
Lonely sailors pass the time away
And talk about their homes

And there's a girl in this harbor town
And she works layin' whiskey down
They say "Brandy, fetch another round"
She serves them whiskey and wine

The sailors say "Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"Yeah your eyes could steal a sailor from the sea"
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)

Brandy wears a braided chain
Made of finest silver from the North of Spain
A locket that bears the name
Of the man that Brandy loves

He came on a summer's day
Bringin' gifts from far away
But he made it clear he couldn't stay
No harbor was his home

The sailor said " Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"But my life, my love and my lady is the sea"
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)

Yeah, Brandy used to watch his eyes
When he told his sailor stories
She could feel the ocean fall and rise
She saw its ragin' glory
But he had always told the truth, Lord, he was an honest man
And Brandy does her best to understand
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)

At night when the bars close down
Brandy walks through a silent town
And loves a man who's not around
She still can hear him say
She hears him say
"Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"But my life, my love and my lady is the sea"
(dooda-dit-dooda), (dit-dooda-dit-dooda-dit)

"Brandy, you're a fine girl" (you're a fine girl)
"What a good wife you would be" (such a fine girl)
"But my life, my love and my lady is the sea"

OK...Here's an obscure one. This is hands-down, my favorite band of all time. They had maybe a couple of songs that received some air-play, but only one true hit. The song is called "Joey."

Who is it?

Garrett Lowell

Concrete Blonde. Saw them in Baltimore with The Lemonheads, Buffalo Tom, and the Gigolo Aunts back in 1990.

Rick Springfield- for Jesse's girl.

How about- Everybody wants you from the album- emotions in motion???

Jim, did someone post the answer and take it away? Besides that's not their best song. What is their best you ask? Why that would be "Fall of the Peacemakers", and the group is Molly Hatchet.

remember the song by Extreme.. don't know the name of it. very nice ,quiet vocals, very melodic love song of some sort. Families and little old ladies went out in their droves to buy the album only to find that the rest of the album was heavy rock  bit of a shock for Nana when the next track clicked over LOL.

might have been early 90's now I come to think of it.

I did get to see Molly Hatchet open for the Outlaws in '79 or 80.

WARNING: Nasty content in post!

John B. - a funny anecdote along the lines of your "Nana was shocked" ...

In '79 I was working the Christmas rush for a friend in a stereo/record shop when a sweet little blue-haired granny came up to me to ask for help finding a record that her granddaughter wanted for Christmas. When she replied to my question that the album desired was Frank Zappa's "Zappa in New York", I tried to delicately suggest that maybe another album would be more appropriate coming from Grandma. However, after chiding me for presuming she was an old fogey when in fact she was a "pretty cool Granny" in the words of her grandchild (a young woman who obviously knew how to suck up to and manipulate old folks), I acquiesced and guided her to the desired album. The transition from beaming Grandma to shocked senior citizen as she read the songlist was priceless. IIRC, it goes, "Titties & Beer", "I Promise Not To Come In Your Mouth", "The Illinois Enema Bandit", etc. She looked at me in mild panic and said, "Do you happen to have something else for a teenage girl from a not-so-cool Granny?". :D

Brad: That's an easy one...Billy Squire.

Since you and Garrett jumped on my tough one so easily, let's see if I can step it up a notch on the Concrete Blonde...

Although it receive no (or very nearly no) airplay, their most popular song was not written by any member of their group, but instead by the front man for another group that's been mentioned in this thread.

Name the song and the group that the writer sang for.

Although Googling's not allowed, you could go out and purchase the Still In Hollywood CD to get the answer.

Black Velvet was Alana Miles

Walking in Memphis was Mark ...??? Same guy that did "Butterfly Kisses"

I'll wait until Garrett chimes in before I spill the beans on who wrote "Tomorrow Wendy"...People in college had never heard of Concrete Blonde, but totally digged that tune.

Beowolf caster of lead, the answer to;

Don't pay the Ferryman,
'till he gets you to the other side, ... is Chris De Burgh.

It is a brilliant ballad and he is no, one hit wonder. Tom Petty should have had a go at singing the song. It would have suited Tom Petty's style really well, I feel.

Warren.

Yes "The Highway Song" was Blackfoot, and how many here thinks that "The Highway Song" sounds real similar to "The House of the Rising Sun" esp at the begining.

Alright over to another tack, who did "Dirty Laundry" and who did "Smuggler's Blues"? A little hint it is 2 different people but they do have ties to one another.

Looks like no one caught Hocus Pocus yet, done by the Dutch group Focus. That LP was just the opposite of John B's Extreme album...one rocker with a bunch of soft mush filler.

Never Been Any Reason was a true one hit wonder by Head East.

Annie's Song was written by Kenny Loggins but made a hit by Ann Murray

I kinda thought Sugarloaf was out of Colorado for some reason. When they split up some members formed a group called Seatrain.

I think I've got all the loose ends here.
