I've been offered a Horex motorcycle. 1950, suicide shift, in nicely restored condition.... 400 (or so) cc. Anyone know anything about them?

Never heard of them but I have heard that at one time there were over 400 motorcycle companies in the U.S.,not just Harleys,Indians and Hendersons.
That picture looks quite nice .If the price was reasonable I'd like to take her for a ride. :D

Horex was an excellent German Motorcycle which i believe did not survive past the 50's because of post war economic conditions in Germany. Have seen some articles on them in Classic Bike Mag, a UK publication. Picture appears to be a 30's model with springer front end. Parts will be hard to find although if your looking for something different then by all means go for it. Price?

How about this Horex (just some minor alterations - like 4 Horex engines in a row...)

Explanation:
There is a German Cartoon Character which is quite famous esspecially in the "biker-scene". This Character is always riding a Horex and in one stora even races a Porsche. So the Artist, himself a Biker, riding Horex-bikes built this Horex to actually race against the Porsche in real life. When that race took place about 300.000 people gathered at an airport in Kiel to see the race.

Unfortunately the Horex lost, due to problems with the carburators.

Very much like the one in the picture...( not the pink one!) Price is still being figured out... They bought the bike for a few hundred euro, but they need to figure out what went into restoration... THEN I'll need to figure out how much to ship it to the states will cost.... It's a beautiful bike....

I like the Werner figure! It's in Versmold, Martin, it might cost too much anyway....
