Although many of you might have wanted to see "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here." as the topic header, here it is. Although I am infatuated with everything traditional (whether practical today or not) I cannot help but feel inspired. I don't mean to offend any of the traditional boat builders here with this amateur construction, nor do I want to say this is the prettiest of all seabirds. These boats are built by people who dream of ocean voyages and wonderous sea adventures, and take those first weary steps into the boatbuilding world and build a dinghy or skiff, or in this case, a sharpie. Granted she's made of cheap ply, SYP timbers, galvenized nails and covered in cheap paint, her owner is content and that is all that matters. I hope those of you out there that dream of bulding a boat but can't muster the funds feel inspired.

"We nailed the boat together using galvanized nails, and painted it with quick drying automotive paint. While I love wooden boats, I am practical and decided that seeing that the boat would live most of the year out of the water, it would almost always be in dry storage. We did not therefore need to put the time or money into making it a perfect boat. We chose therefore not to use fiberglass or expensive paints or epoxy."
