Seen this? :D

By John McCaslin, Washington Times

VC surfaces
A new four-legged angle — actually a dog named "VC" — has suddenly materialized surrounding Sen. John Kerry's swift boat service in Vietnam.
In a 2004 presidential candidate questionnaire for Humane USA, Mr. Kerry was asked whether any pets have had an impact on his life.
"I have always had pets in my life, and there are a few that I remember very fondly," Mr. Kerry replied. "When I was serving on a Swift Boat in Vietnam, my crewmates and I had a dog we called VC.

"One day as our Swift Boat was heading up a river, a mine exploded hard under our boat," he continued. "After picking ourselves up, we discovered VC was MIA (missing in action). Several minutes of frantic search followed, after which we thought we'd lost him. We were relieved when another boat called asking if we were missing a dog."
Said Mr. Kerry: "It turns out VC was catapulted from the deck of our boat and landed, confused but unhurt, on the deck of another boat in our patrol."
J.J. Scheele, program director of Humane USA, confirmed yesterday that her organization did, in fact, receive the above statement from the Kerry campaign.
No military records on Mr. Kerry's Web site, which aides say is a complete accounting, mention a mine exploding under his boat or any dog. The only report of a mine detonating "near" Mr. Kerry's PCF 94 was March 13, 1969, when Mr. Kerry says he was injured and a man knocked overboard.

How convenient of him to remember that.

If he happens to stop at a shelter for homeless prostitues perhaps we can hear yet another untold story from Vietnam. smile.gif

Oh, come off it,,,,,,, everyone knows that the only point of doing military service is so you can have the pleasure of lying about in later years.
We all do it and those that deny that fact probably weren't there at all.
Did I ever tell you about the time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,?

It wouldn't surprise me if they had a dog. There were millions of little mixed breed pups running around Vietnam. We had one, named Prick, living in our bunker. He liked to eat dope, but he was very polite about it. Whenever someone would light up, or open a 10-pack, Prick would come over and wait patiently. We'd break up a joint for him, and he'd gobble it down, then go back and sleep on his pillow.

I'll tell my 2 sons serving in The Air Force what you said. I'm sure they will be impressed.

I thought it was a man who got blown into the water and Kerry saved him. Now a dog got blown off his boat, too. Remarkable. ;)

I think the intriguing story here is the dog being blown onto the deck of another patrol boat, close enough to be blown onto the boat, but far enough away that the said boat had to ask if someone was missing a dog. ;) Maybe the skipper of VC had the same name as the Marine's dog mentioned above.

This is the same guy who is not sure if he owns a SUV. I think the latest version is that it really belongs to his wife, and she occasionally lets him drive it. I suppose with all the houses and cars they own he may lose track.

Great Uncles of mine told some brilliant tales of WW1, Uncles and my Dad told of WW2, cousins of Korea, Malaya and Suez and I’ve told mine of Aden, South Arabia and Ulster.
Try not to be so Po faced about it,,,,,,,,,

No Ian they are are men of integrity and intelligence.I'm confident they will not feel that was the ONLY point of their service.

For you to suggest such a thing is idiotic and a slap at the veterans who have given their lives for the freedoms you enjoy.

Getting away from home, Getting a job that they can't sack you from. Getting free education and trade training. Getting drunk with your pals. A chance of playing with big noisy toys that do huge damage and all like that...
Mention Honour and Duty or Defence of Democratic Values in my old Sgts Mess and you would get a pretty unanimous howl of derision.

Somewhere I read that the dog's name was "Victoria Charlette", and I have seen what was supposed to be a photo of him and the dog.

The story of the dog flying through the air, propelled by a mine explosion, onto another boat without injury, so far away that the other boat didn't hear the explosion, though, is ... nah, didn't happen that way.

I'm really beginning to wonder about him.
