I have what appers to be two small leaks along
the garboard plank seam. It is abought 1/2
gallon a week toal max. My question is, could this cause rot over time. The whole bilge is
protected with red lead. The boat sits in
fresh water. I do get some rain water in the bilge anyway when it rains where the cockpit
cover does not cover. I empty the bilge everytime
I take the boat out at least once a week, so it
is not stagnent water.

I will atempt to fix this when I pull the boat
this fall but was just wondering if I am not able to how serious coulds this be 5 years down the road.

Thank you for your replies.

I wish I only leaked 1/2 gal a week. If your concerned about rot, treat the wood when she's dry. It'll last the season.

Water in the bilge form any source is unlikely to promote rot. The reason is that the planks are already saturated to the point where rot doesn't propagate. The leak itself sounds minor, but rot shouldn't be a problem.
