    not sure if others mentioned this but the gov't of Burma said 90 have died,,,this might not be accurate.

    It can't be accurate. Myanmar Gov't won't let anyone in.

      BBC News reported similar figures. They sent a reporter to Rangoon, but he was unable to travel to affected areas or otherwise corroborate. The govt. claims that its coastal areas were sheltered by the Andaman Is. but I'm not sure, given a quick glance at the map.

        otoh, Bangladesh was miraculously spared, given the low lying sandbars and miles of shallow water along it's coast. That would have been a tragedy, given the millions living close to the coast.

          Andrew informed me the other day that the main force of the tsunami was directed to the east and west thus sparing Burma and Bangladesh from severe damage.

          The eartquake's faultline ran north-south.An expert on the radio today described the wave action as being similar to that of a log tossed into water with most wave force being directed perpindicular to the logs length.
