I have a problem with the deck of my plywood sailboat. The deck is made of mahogany plywood with a lot of mahogany trim pieces. For some reason I found it necessary to use 2-pack polyurethane to paint the deck and 2-pack polyurethane varnish for the trim pieces. However, while it is relatively easy to achieve a good finish for the paint, I find it very hard to get good results (no brushmarks) with the varnish.
Now I read in Don Casey's book that you can apply
polyurethane over 'cured' varnish. i.e. more than 3 month old.
This would enable me to varnish all the trim with regular varnish and finally mask of the trim and put on a final coat of polyurethane paint over the edges of the varnish.
Is this a good idea?? ( I can wait 3 months)
