Even though he meant the best, he didn't perform. He wanted to save those lifes, but yet he left the ship without even trying to wake up those 800 souls. Yeah he wanted to die, but yet he saved his own skin and left 800 souls sound asleep on a sinking vessal. But yet it didn't sink and the lifes were saved and his was ruined.

Did Lord Jim posses that tragic flaw that we learned about in Lit class?

When you're done with Lord Jim, read Middlemarch by George Eliot. One of my utter favourites.

"Typhoon" was better...

"It was something formidal and swift..."

My dad gave me a copy of 'Lord Jim' when I was just a nipper. That, the 'Mutiny on the Bounty' trilogy, and 'Moby Dick' were books that never left my bedside as a kid. I still own them all, as well as various dvd versions of them.

Well, Chad. Did you finish? What did you think?

Just about the best prose stylist in English. Not bad for a furriner. Read a paragraph of Conrad, then close the book and try to write it from memory. You might learn a thing or two about English usage.
