yesterday i was applying varnish on my 16' wayfarer. occasionally i'll take off my shirt to reduce dust while i varnish. i was standing on the opposite side of the boat from the door when my daughter and son-in-law walked in. i guess they couldn't see me from the waist down and must have assumed the worst. you should have seen the looks on their faces. i just raised my eyebrows smiled and continued on as they rushed out.

I don't think varnish is a good second skin. Probably wan't something to keep it from covering your surface area rather than the wood.

How dusty can your shirt be? I'm picturing Pigpen here.

ok ok maybe it's not about the dust maybe it's about something more powerful, an urge that you just have to follow. don't knock it till you try it. you may never be the same again! i know i'm not.

just to quote from "The Canoe Shop" by Chris Kulczycki p.132 "There's more than one perfectionist out there who varnishes naked".

you know who you are, but you won't admit it.

but you should stop doing it in the boatyard in the daytime.
