Just wanted to let yall know, I finall got my boat in water!
1957 CC Cavalier 15' Utility, been rebuilding for almost 3 years.
All went well no leaks, but discovered the generator was heating up wires. yea I know should have checked it but I had just got it back from being rebuilt , had a new cutout.
I took a short cruise with wires disconnected anyway. Man nothing like the feeling of cruisin around in this project.. all new wood and varnish
spent last summer on varnish ya know it looks good
After I got back home I wanted to do some trouble shooting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
So I cleverly devised a way to run engine on land.. a modified plunger-hose hook up...
Took coupling apart .....clever eh?
Hooked trailer to truck started out of shop (didn't want to get water in shop) hey I think I didn't latch trailer hitch, being of quick mind stopped truck.. no problem.
Then skillfully maneuvered boat beside shop but within reach of garden hose/plunger thing.
So fer so good ..
Then I think ya know this boat ain't too level.
Shoot Ill just unhook it and let it rest on the little wheel thing on trailer.. yea
So I unhook it then lower it ahhh nice and level
Feeling proud of my ideas and thinking ahead to what I was going to do next
I get back in truck to pull it out of the way
Heard a "funny" noise
Looked back and the damn boat trailer is rolling!
Yup down the slight incline..
Jumping from truck, thinking what body part I could put between boat and whatever it was going to crash into..
CRASH!!!!! into the new wood fence I put up a couple of months ago...................
insert multiple bad words here:
damage ,,,, 1 trailer light
scuffed and scraped varnish at rub rail
gouged place at transom near splash rail right where the transom and side joint it (corner)
you cant guess how ummm upset I was/am!
Could not sleep last night figuring how to repair.
Anyway I have chiseled damaged wood and have pieced a patch in... I think with some stain and varnish wont look tooo terrible.
Just wish there was somebody else to blame sometimes... I'm still mad at Me.
Talked to guy who rebuilt generator he said oh you just have it wired wrong its supposed to be positive ground... so while Im waiting for the varnish to dry on repair..... I'll take the generator back to have it re rebuilt for polarity and rotation

No. How upset were you?

I have a friend that landed his Veri-eze airplane with the nose wheel retracted. He later said that was the dumbest thing he ever did. The second dumbest was telling people about it. (It does little damage to this type of airplane but it sure is embarassing.)

Anyway, the point is, it happens in one way or the other to the best of us. Lesson learned, little damage done, onward and upward....

Best.

Hey G, I wouldn't feel too bad. I was 12 when I got my mom's station wagon stuck in a sand pile, which in itself was really no big deal because my twin brother was standing by with the Jeep to pull me out. Only problem was that I hadn't gotten back in the car when he started pulling, coupled with the fact that I'd forgotten to put the wagon in park. As one would guess we had a real problem, real fast. The wagon took off pretty good once it grabbed hold, and even at that, managed to get the door open and was about to jump in when I looked up and saw that I was about to get pinned between the door and a big maple,....jumped clear just before the damn tree ripped the door off. My poor mother!

As bad as it sounds,it could of been worse. Count your blessings Groovy. Lessons learned the hard way and shared make us all wiser. Sounds like your boat has a mind and spirit of it's own. :D Dings and scrapes will give it character and back up your story.Yours is not the first boat to take off without the owner. Peace---> Kevin in Ohio

Maybe you were in one of those places where things roll uphill? People pay big money to see that kind of phenomenon. I myself would like to see the video.
Seriously, I hear there are people in this world who never do dumb things, but I think it's just a rumor. Never encountered one myself.

I won't go into details, but my 22' Wharram Cat has a name and a subtitle- Scattercat: at least nobody got hurt.
