boor on the WBF? Quotations would be fabulous, but it looks like my probable prime nominee's most recent quotes have disappeared.

Sorry, it's merely my slim powers of observation that have disappeared (assuming, of course, that said powers ever were present).

"... I am absolutley astounded by your stupidity, on three levels.

First, that you could be so mistaken about a subject that is so well defined.

Second, that you didn't take the time to pick up a text book or do a google search to learn something.

Third, that it apparently hasn't occurred to you that some people really do know what they are talking about. Some people have studied the subject for years. Some people have several degrees in the subject. Some people make a comfortable living using these ideas every day. You might even encounter some of these people. When you do, I hope you're not so gad-awful stupid as to try to lecture them over and over again with your erroneous ideas while they repeatedly correct your mistakes."

Then, of course, there was "you two can kiss my @ss" or something close to that.

(So many boors, so little time.)

I think it would be best if we all took turns being the boor, so that nobody feels left out.

A boor is someone who respondes to a legitimate question with a snicde remark intended to mask his ignorance with a show of superiority. Funny you should post this question, Ed. Hey Mike have you tried O'Doul's? Pretty good IMHO! Only problem is it's the shortest route back to the real stuff, according to my friend in AA.

It all depends on whose ox is getting bored.

To some people, repeating tedious scientific minutiae is okay -- as long as you're incorrect.

...but heaven help the poor soul who takes the time to correct all the mistakes.

George, I couldn't care less about the actual topic of this thread, but if ad hominem attacks are an "old neocon tactic," we apparently have several old neocons on the forum.;)

PS: just pulling your chain, Donn. Don't freak out on me...

You couldn't reach my chain, georgedot. tongue.gif

So who do you nominate, Donn?

05-07-2005, 03:15 PM
I agree with Wayne. One nominee is far too limiting in this venue.

05-07-2005, 03:21 PM
OK, we each nominate three. Then we vote.

Hm, I'm not gonna vote either. The boor to interest quotient is ever changing. Some have been boors with me, I've been with them, no doubt, but I'm not voting.

The biggest boor here has shown signs of reform. Why would I want to reopen a can that's been opened and then sealed?

Can I vote twice? :D I have another nominee.

Boor comes from the Dutch word for farmer. I'm of Dutch decent and I farm. And I have distant cousins named Boorman. Neighbor (near farmer) comes from the same root.

We call the Dutch South Africans Boers, I guess its the same thing.
