Look at this! Its in Michigan and near the lake, maybe boat stuff is in there.
-----------

(TV5) Bay City-- It's a treasure hunter's dream come true. A once in a lifetime opportunity, and it's right here in Mid-Michigan. A hardware store that closed its doors in 1955 remains as it was almost fifty years ago, with everything still on the shelves.

Zielinski Hardware has escaped time for the last five decades, until now. The business closed in 1955, but they never liquidated the stock, they simply closed the doors and never reopened.

Greg Armstrong says it took years to convince the heirs of the late owner to let him in the store, let alone sell off the stores time hidden wares.

"When we walked in here it was truely overwhelming. There was a lot of stuff and we had no idea what would be in here. We found advertising packages still unopened in the boxes. Tools with no rust. We opened the boxes and the tools were bright and shiny, like they just came from the supplier, Armstrong said.

There hasn't been a paying customer at Zielinski's since 1955, but on April 14th the doors will reopen and everything in the store will be for sale. You can find Zielinski's Hardware store on the corner of Michigan and Cass across the street from St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Bay City. Doors open at 9:00am and Armstrong says that there will not be any early sales.

Betcha can't get within a mile of the place on opening day. The place will be over run with "collectors" and "dealers". The stuff will be on ebay on Sunday at triple the real value.

The mind does boggle. Good old galvanized fasteners. Stanley planes and other good hand tools. Wonder if they had any lumber? Or doug-fir plywood? *sigh*

What would be most interesting is the feel of being in a store abandoned for 50 years. In New Westminster B.C. there was an old drugstore that up until its demolition 12 years ago had'nt been updated since the 50's or 60's.Most of the stock was new but the furniture, signage and general atmosphere was from the past.

I'm sure that there will be some cool stuff for sale at this store. They'd be much smarter to sell it on E-Bay themselves.I'd like to see some footage of the store and its inventory before it's all gone.

You've probably hit on the greatest loss of all. The store needs to be photo-documented down to the dust in the corners.

Where's a guy like M.M. to do something worthwhile?
