Just saw this on the History Channel

today's adrenaline junkies got nothing on these guys

Its a way to recover a person on the ground by an airplane. The person puts on a harness, which is attached to a balloon which strecthes a cable a few hundred feet into the air. A low flying aircraft then snags the cable and then hauls the individual up into the airplane.

That thing appears in one of the James Bond movies with Sean Connery. - Different plane though.
