Though I don't feel any one religion is better than the other ,I do believe that collective thoughts,i.e. prayers do help.

My son Artie is 20 months old and came down with a severe rash and a high fever last week.He has been in the hospital since Saturday. The fever is down but so are his white blood cells and platelettes.I just got the word from my wife that they are going to test his bone marrow for deficiancies this afternoon I' on my way to the hospital right now.All thought are appreciated. Thanks Dan L. :(

On my knees, now :( Tell us when you get back. Children get the worst fevers and bounce back I hope & pray its minor. I remember when Tess was just born the doctor did some preliminary test and thought she might have hip displacia which might require surgery. The doctor was all matter of fact about it. I left his office with my wife and balled like a child - children do that to ya. It turned out she was OK and nothing showed up in the test. I hope the same for you.

Best thoughts, and hopeful wishes.... If they haven't already done this.... Have them do a Lyme disease test. I know it sounds stupid, but it sounds like Lyme disease to me.

I just reread all of your posts and if this were a different age it would be as Richard Thompson said.. "a tear stained letter". Well for starters The Artie guy came home yesterday afternoon smile.gif .I then proceeded to change and go to a job fair(zoo)for Amgen a pharmecutical company that'll be hiring 300 people before the years end and 400 next year. The traffic was backed up for a mile on the highway and a 2 1/2 hr wait to talk with some one for 5 minute.when I got home the computer was monopolized.and this is my first chance to type.

So here is what we've learned; Artie had a really bad virus/vomoting/diahrea/fever(103 degrees F +)They were concerned as to his white blood cells ,platelettes and interpherons counts being low. While it is normal for one of these to be low during an illness it gave the doctors a concern that all of them were low ,so they ordered a bone marrow biopsy. This proceedure is treated like a surgery and the out come could have been grave. He had an I.V. in his arm for two days prior, this helped the fever go down, but as he got to feeling better it came out so a new one had to be put in. They tried his other arm but missed ,they tried his foot with no luck then they tried and thought they had it on his left wrist. All this while myself my wife and two nurses held his little body down. Now he hadn't had any thing ingested in 6hrs(he hadn't eaten in 5 days, just milk). So we did our best to keep him calm for the next hour before he met the surgical team.We carried him in and they set up an anesthesia to go into the I.V. saying he's gonna go out fast.He didn't,the I.V. had failed so they gassed him with ether while I was holding him .It was so sad to watch him fall slowly into unconsciousness, not knowing if this is a major complication for the anesthesiologist and whether we'ld see him again. My wife balled as we left the O.R.so they could set another I.V. and do the procedure. It would take a half an hour and we waited in the waiting room, the misses said she would like a coffee so I went to the cafeteria they had a cyber lounge ,two computers set for Internet access.I had to check the forum for inspiration. It was a great relief to see all that had logged on in such a short time and knowing good thought were being sent from around the planet. This truely is amazing.(thank you all)On my way back I walked through a lobby where a man was selling goods on a table,he had one picture propped on a chair,a gaff rigged schooner racing a gaff rigged sloop on a port tack,it just caught my eye.I debated with myself as not to be selfish in this time and what my wife would say.I bought it .When she saw me she said is that the boat picture? I said yeah. She said she liked it and almost bought it but didn't have enough.(wheww).It's a Stephen J. Renard print called Westward Racing .My wife told me that everyone at her school was praying for Artie, I said I have people around the world working on it too.Minutes later the doctors came in and said all went well.Double wheww. Now we had to wait till the next day for all the test to be done,Artie yanked the I.V. out again and had trouble going to sleep. It was a long night.Around noon the hematologist came in and gave us the good news,His bone marrow is producing white blood cells, platelettes and inter pherons normally(triple wheeww!!)Yet the low counts are still in his blood but they feel it is do to fighting of this Virus( no name,It seems they don't bother identifying them because they don't/can't treat virus's??)So now the little guy is home and oh so happy to be here as we all are.He just ate an egg and some cheerios smile.gif and is taking a nap.Now I've got to get the young girl(Aimee, almost 3)down for her nap.We are treating Artie with an oral prednosone(a steroid) to increase his immune system and have another appointment next week for blood work.THANK YOU all for the kind words,as I said I do believe it helps.God Bless you all and yours. smile.gif

As to Lyme disease it was one of the conciderations at first. The doctors said he would have had one of the three compomants (white cells, platelettesor interpherons)in the low range, not all three.I just pulled a deer tick off me a month and a half ago.It was on my arm when I woke in the morning. We always check ourselves and the babies since we live in the woods near Ct.I checked my medical books about it ,the indication is a ring around a red spot(like a target)on the bite site followed by naussea ,fever and joint pain.If the tick is removed within 24 hrs. there is little chance for infection. They did refuse my blood though at the last blood drive because I had been bit less than a month prior.Arties rash was over 90% of his body and mottled looking.Bad virus, bad.!

Again thanks to all and God Bless.I'm sure even people who didn't post said a silent word for him as I have on other threads.

Whenever I look at Racing Westward I will think of you all and this ordeal.God Bless Dan L.

Dan and crew -

I'm so happy to hear that Artie is on the mend! It is awful to see our kids in pain and us unable to make it better with a bandaid or a kiss.

So good to hear. As an adult, one who knows about IVs, I still have a hard time not pulling them out, and usually ask that they be taped down three or four times rather than once.
