Thanks to all for your compliments, I hardly need add that all the credit belongs to Albert Strange and the boat's builder, Fabian Bush. And I can't wait either!
Thanks for the progress pix...keep em comming.

Dick,
Your Wenda is just about perfect. Keep us posted as to your progress.
I have a question about the assembly for the rudder post. It looks like you built a square trunk for it. Any reason for not using a plate and bronze tube? Was this type of rudder port construction common to the Strange boats?
Also, what type of finish do you have on the interior?
Thanks,
Russ

That is one fine looking hunk of boat.... smile.gif smile.gif ...Phil
That rudder trunk construction is common in counter and canoe sterned Strange designs. Even in designs where the rudder shaft seems to be carried in a tube, the stern post is carried up to the deck and the horn timber rabbet runs past the post to the top of the stern knee. SEA HARMONY's arrangement is similar to Dick's WENDA. How tubes were set up or other boats are done would be interestiing to know.

RussWell the rudder details are more or less as drawn by Phil Bolger, I just left the details to the builder, but what Thad says makes sense. As for the interior, if by 'finish' you mean surface treatment, the planking is just varnished. If you mean how fitted out, the answer is 'Spartan' in the extreme. I popped over to see her at the weekend, here the internals are more or less complete apart from the stove yet to go in on a shelf to port:

and here the exterior, a sublime shape I think:

She is fixed up for beaching legs as you can see, also prepared to take the ground, intentionally or otherwise, with bilge runners:

Russ, you would feel quite at home in her!
Edited to add:
The 'yard' is interesting, Fabian Bush's house and yard is the last remaining bit of the Harris Bros yard which used to build sizeable craft 100 years ago, including Don Street's Iolaire, 100 years old this year:
http://www.street-iolaire.com/disc.htm
Today, it has mostly been sold off so Fabian is completely surrounded by new housing, however under some covenant there remains a slip onto the river Colne across the road, which is where we will launch next year.

Man; that is lovely!
Wonderful work being done there.

Dick,
Since you built to the outside of the lines, did you change the location of any elements (rudder post, centerboard??? How much more ballast are you adding.

RBAt first I thought we might need to up the ballast, but no we didn't change anything, on the basis that the wider hull will be stiffer, and the designed ballast will be a couple of inches lower in the water, increasing its moment; the increased displacement is equivalent to a couple of extra crew (rugby players maybe). The sail plan is unchanged. We are talking about an extra 500 pounds or so, not a lot in the scheme of things. There is room inside for additional ballast should it be found necessary, or I suppose we could add it to the outside. How about a lead keel wing to improve windward ability...

I was remembering how "Sally" was increased to around 4000 lbs disp and he added at least 500 lbs ballast...(to both the board and the keel). Its good that you can add ballast later if needed. Boy she's beautiful.
