Been busy installing new windows in the kitchen, and stripping wallpaper upstairs. Tonight I get to make a frame for a new stained glass window, going into the master bedroom.

I also used the tent poles to make the upper gaff spar. I made the mast out of Doug fir and the boom will be brought over from my sharpie (which is also Doug Fir).

I spend two-three hours a day working on Dalia. Progress is slow, but encouraging. We had our first meal cooked aboard last month, prepared in the newly-operational galley - roast quail with orange couscous. And two weeks ago, the first hot shower! Next weekend, hopefully, we'll spend the first night aboard with functioning lights in the head and the saloon table installed.

Seven years and three months, but I think she's almost done. I should be able to start maintenance and repairs soon... :D

I've been out buying brooms to paint the boat with. tongue.gif

Today will be a good day for a change. Its friday here, I've taken time off and arranged to meet 3 guys for lunch to talk boats . Then we go to another friends boat for a quick sail. We have to decide whether we take it( 42 ft) or the usual 32 footer on the Coastal classic we do each year.( 120NM overnight race north to the Bay Of Islands) .
Its a dilemma because none of us have sailed this 42ft boat so we don't know the systems and we know the other boat backwards. But we'd like the change and the challenge. There might be some small degree of politics too.( actually, thats more the issue prolly) Dunno. we'll see.
Its going to be a good day whatever. :D

boat boat boatboat boatboat.

OoooooH! Chad! You made a big wooden "H"! :D BEAUTIFUL!!!
I have been making piles of sawdust, and occasionally, even though the doctor ordered me not to, going out for short sails in the "Marjie B".

Critique. No offense. Why not countersink and bung the rubrail fastenings? And the bowsprit and its mooring cleat could use more shape; the bowsprit for aesthetics, the mooring cleat because it works better, is easier on the line.

I am told the design is very similar to Chespeake Light Craft's "Cape Charles"

Eric : man that Baidarka is going to look sweet! I thought about doing a fiddle head on the stem. but for my $75 luan and polyester boat that would have been like putting pearls on a pig :D
Here is a thread in MISC-BR about the kayak (http://www.woodenboat-ubb.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=6;t=004633)

In after thought I probably should have bunged them. They are counter sunk enough to get the heads below the surface, but not enough to bung. Live and learn.

The bits do need to be rounded a little. I didn't do it prior to installation because I wanted a good square fit at the deck, and than after installation I just haven't got to that yet, and besides I forgot about it and varnished. I'll re-think that.

The bowsprit in these photos don't really show the shape. It is octagon shapped up untill it leaves the bow and than it goes to round. I didn't bring to much thinner on the end, because it is made of sitka spruce (as far as I can tell) and I was worried about reducing the strength of it. Isn't there a lot of force out there? Really in real life it has a much more pleasing shape, that photo does the shape no justice.
